For the sake of a handful of beer tokens I would spend the extra on some high performance stuff.. if you blew all of that money on an AIO (which I hope was for space saving/aesthetic reasons... and not cooling/value  ) then the extra few degrees are worth the pennies. It might only be a few degrees but given how balanced fan profiles vs temps can be it might trim some unwanted noise in some scenarios.

Opening the case should never void a warranty. If it is you have bought from a really messed up provider, opening the case is necessary for cleaning at the very least. Need to get some case fans in there stat. Anything will do if you are short on funds. Measure the mounts inside the case from screw hole to screw hole (not diagonally) and find some fans that fit that spread. Check your motherboard for fan headers, they will usually be dotted around the board (3-4 pins sticking up, usually with the text 'fan #' next to them). If you have space for fans and headers get the fans, if you don't I would seriously consider taking the PC back if you can. No idea who would build a standard PC without even basic airflow.

A 1080Ti is inadequate for 1440p 144hz gaming if you're aiming for max settings.

I might be missing something as I don't play GTA 5 on pc (my digital prostitute and RTA simulation days are over) but why would you run in 5k if you have a 4k monitor? This could just be their lingo for 4k+ or something but not sure why you would call it that..

Anyway, are there any ways to boot the game into a safe mode or launch options before entry? If there are not you should be able to adjust the settings through NVIDIA experience panel. If you haven't already just try launching the game on the lowest settings and see what happens. I don't know why it would run fine and then just not (without working after reinstalls due to corrupted data files).

Any power supply rated to cover your wattage will be absolutely fine. I would probably knock it up to a 700-750w PSU for extra leeway in the future (a good PSU should last you through several upgrades/rebuilds).

The system will be absolutely fine for 4k work as long as you factor the 4k monitor into the price equation too (or already have one). You'll be amazed at home many wingnuts spend a fortune building a 'awesome l33t 4k battlerig' and buy a 1080 monitor...

Always personal preference but unless you want super shiny RGB window views, I'd go for Noctua NH 15 over water cooler. Cheap, as effective and less faff/parts to break.

As for how long it will be good to use for? For as long as you only need it to work on 4k videos? If the workload stays the same nothing will change. As much as I hate to recommend AMD *shakes fist* you might be better off with something Ryzen for content creation as well.

The performance gains are really not worth that much when it comes to performance, even on Ryzen from reviews I've seen. Sure, more so than other CPUs maybe but the gains are really minimal.

I did my Ryzen 3 review thread/vid using a 1080, and I have a 1050 ti in that rig now (Built for my wife) and anything over a 1060 or 580 will be bottlenecked.

Phone looks legit to me. If it was a clone you would see far bigger issues than packaging texture. There are plenty of manufacturing variances in packaging over time and between models. Try CPU Z but I'm sure it will be legit. If it was a clone there would be much bigger tells. In addition to this some phones get sent back and repackaged or taken in by third party sellers and repackaged after being serviced/checked for customer returns.

You might be able to essentially get them for free but there is little point in suggesting a particular model as you will be paying normal prices for them even if you can still order them. It's highly unlikely that you will be able to get the exact model when hunting for free/super cheap offers.

Your best bet would be to just wait until you have some money on standby and hunt a high refresh monitor down on eBay. I know it's not exactly cheap but I managed to get 144hz G Sync 27 inch monitor for less than £200. If I didn't care about G Sync and was willing to go down in size a little (i.e only care about refresh rate) I could easily pick one up very cheaply at some point.

You could also do a 'wanted' on your local Craigslist type site for a high refresh rate monitor. If CRT is still your thing then you could also just say that you're happy to have even CRT if it is high refresh. Personally I would just avoid CRT now... although I do miss swiping static off of my screen on power up

    Ideas:

    1) It's not plugged into a 6Gb/s sata slot (I did this for years without noticing!)
    2) Thermal throttling.. very unlikely over a sustained period
    3) The drive is nearly full. SSDs do not like being full. They slow a LOT as they approach max capacity. Clear your drive as much as possible.
    4) Try Samsung Magician to check on the health of the drive.. it might just be a bad drive/dying.

They don't. Unless you only launch the same game over and over  (and if it's small enough to fit in the NAND cache), you won't see any improvement in loading times. SSHDs can be good for OS drives (compared to an HDD) but for mass storage and games, it makes basically no difference, you're basically just buying a really expensive HDD.

Single core clock speed will be better on most Intel CPUs which would be better if it is going to be used for gaming only and not multi-tasking.

I'm assuming that he will have a pretty sick monitor to be playing in 4k as well? Personally I don't see the fascination with 4k gaming (admittedly not have more than a few hours experience with it). Buttery smooth performance at 1080 or 1440 would be better. Ultrawide is really where it is at for gaming and far less likely to cause an issue running those games into the ultra specs. I would strongly recommend a high refresh gsync in ultra wide (or not) over 4k any day.

On a very subjective and personal note I would avoid an AIO cooler when buying for someone else, more so if they are not tech savvy enough to build the system themselves. Granted there is no maintenance like a custom loop but there is simply more to go wrong than a good old fashioned air cooler. For less (depending on the model, but for most models this is true by a significant margin) I would put a Noctua NH 15 in there if the case will allow (which most will). It's damned near silent, covered by an amazing warantee, less stuff to go wrong and will never leak all over your precious CPU/graphics card etc in meltdown situations.

Of course all of this is personal taste but you would get much better bang for your buck and longevity with these suggestions.

A Twitter friend with expertise in discrimination debates pointed something out: it's funny how so many people are willing to acknowledge that racism exists, but the moment you point to an example of it, they bend over backwards to say that it doesn't really count.

PewDiePie quickly apologized, and that's good; I'm sure he's nicer than that outburst suggested.  However, that's not really the point.  The issue is that racism is this infectious, pervasive thing that can affect otherwise well-meaning people.  It's that readiness to use racial slurs in the heat of the moment (even as a joke), and then telling black people that they shouldn't find it offensive.  It's tensing up when you cross paths with a black man on the street, or rolling up your windows when you drive through a predominantly black neighborhood.  And if you don't check that behavior, especially with public figures like PewDiePie, it never really goes away -- you're basically arguing that a casual level of racism is okay.
