yeah for the parts I want it's like $1300 before tax so, If I am not missing out on much with the 7800X3D sounds like sticking with my 5800X3D and AM4 sounds solid since I game at 4K

Thanks for replies all.  To reiterate this move is 100% for gaming.  The most I use this computer otherwise is for Office and web browsing, so I understand that the 5900X would be better at productivity but I really only game or do things a Chromebook could accomplish

Very common.  I have had three.  I got lucky and scored my 1st RTX 3090 FE through BB and it had horrible coil whine and returned it but then I got lucky again and got another RTX 3090 FE with probably equal coil whine and eventually returned that.  I got lucky a third time and got another RTX 3090 FE again from BB and this time the coil whine was less but still very present.  Eventually after 6+ months the coil whine has died down.

    I had the same prob with a 3090 TI OC, it can be one of 5 things;

You are not using the correct cable configuration (cables on the 4090 have changed so this might be usless on new cards)
You have multiple software controlling the fan Rpm's and they are clashing, example: Aorus master and MSI afterburner.
The OC switch on the card is switched off, there is a tiny switch on the card itself just under the plastic Gpu cover.
One of the fans is broken (bearings) or loose wire. Try to spin it with your finger and see if you have any play on the fan or any weird noises.
    Card not getting enough power.

I am making a 2nd rig and I decided on the 5700G.  The 5600X is faster at gaming but this is mostly at 1080P.  If you do more multicore work or in my case just want to have a CPU with onboard graphics for troubleshooting or holding out for a dedicated GPU, than the 5700G makes sense.

Well....... Good luck with your political beliefs....... But the GPU tariffs that have been reinstituted are 25% tariffs.... so that is going to have a major impact on prices in an industry with already razor thin profit margins.

It depends what resolution and games you play.  A RTX 3070 is basically a newer version of the RTX 2080 Ti performance wise so with that being said 1080P and most 1440P will be fine for the RTX 3070.  Now if you want to play certain new AAA games like CP 2077, WD Legion, AC Valhalla at 1440P-4K than yes a RXT 3080 or even RXT 3090 starts to become the bare min.

I use nice hash as a casual miner and for the 2% they take out of my two rigs it's not a big deal.  Now if you had 100 GPUs and did this for a living sure you would want to maximize every single cent possible and not auto mine.  For me it's not worth the hassle since again I am a casual miner and I am looking to do this just to make some cash on the side with my RTX 3080 and 3090.  I spent a lot of money on them cards I might as well use them when I am not gaming...

I live in NYC so power is high but even with power in the equation I project to make $600-$700 a month profit

Jrasero got a reaction from malawar in Help me decide! RTX 3090 VS 6900 XT
I can't comment on the RX 6900 XT but as a RTX 3090 FE owner I can vouch that if you can get one for $1500 it would be the card to get.   The card's cooler is fantastic, the card itself looks like a work of art, better Ray Tracing than the RX, has DLSS, NVIDIA studio, more memory, and simply the fastest GPU out there.  Now is it a great value no, but with all these price hikes going on it kind of is...  I just saw Newegg directly selling a 6800 for $950 and through Newegg shuffle RX 6900 XT were going for $1400+.  If you can get a pure $1000 RX 6900 XT sure the debate tightens but those cards are really rare

Jrasero reacted to WereCatf in Is rtx3070 a refresh of 2080ti?
No. The RTX 30-series has a bunch of improvements to the tensor-cores and such, plus also added AV1 - decoding in hardware. The 3070 also achieves the same performance at lower power-draw, so no, it's not a direct refresh.

Jrasero reacted to MadPistol in 3080's 10GB VRAM: Is it enough?
I feel like I just had this discussion on another forum, so I'll cut out all the gunk that spawned from that discussion and move to the strong points.

For the moment, 10GB on the RTX 3080 is enough for 4K, but not higher resolutions than that. 16GB for the RX 6000 cards is overkill. 256-bit GDDR6 memory = slower and unable to take advantage of 4K in most situations. Thus, it is nothing more than a marketing point for the foreseeable future. The most "intense" games currently on the market use just over 9GB VRAM at 4K.  Cyberpunk 2077, when maxed out at 4K without DLSS, utilizes around 9GB VRAM. At these settings, the average framerate is around 5 FPS. Doom Eternal, when maxed out at 4K, utilizes around 8.5GB VRAM Most of this is cached and it will likely scale with lower VRAM (going to test this on my 2070 Super later today) Grand Theft Auto 5, at 4K max settings with Frame Scaling mode set to 3/2 (1.5x resolution of 4k), it utilizes roughly 9.8GB VRAM around 35 FPS average. Playing GTA V at 4K on a 3080 without utilizing Frame Scaling mode yields 60+ FPS. DLSS and other AI upscaling tech will help to mitigate this as it renders at a lower resolution, thus requiring less VRAM. In several years, the 10GB VRAM on the 3080 "might" become an issue, but as has been pointed out already, new consoles have 16GB shared memory to be utilized for system, OS, and video. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have quick start features that allow you to switch between games/applications quickly. This will also cost a decent chunk of memory to remain in place.

    TL;DR

10GB of VRAM is fine at 4K for now. 8GB might not be enough at 4K but should be plenty at 1440P. 16GB VRAM is complete overkill considering that the RX 6000 cards don't scale very well beyond 1440P.

personally get whatever RTX 3080 you can find.  Availability has been horrid.  I missed out at launch and bought a scalped RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra but signed up for notifications and just got notified about products being held for me to purchase on November 12.  So it took almost two months for EVGA to fulfill launch day notification orders.

The lower tier capacitors causing crashes at higher clocks has NOT been verified.  Multiple sources have had FE and ASUS cards crash too and I personally have a EVGA RTX 3080 XC Ultra which uses a mix of capacitors and it 100% fine with an OC.

This whole narrative that 10GB isn't enough is bull.  Yes it's sad to see it's less than what you would get with a RTX 2080 Ti, but you got to remember most people play at 1080P, at 1440P there really isn't a game that 10GB isn't enough, and at 4K maybe there is what 2 games that 10GB starts to possibly become a problem?  IMO it's just a simple case of FOMO.  Also with the shortage of cards for the foreseeable future a RTX 3080 will be worth MSRP or even above for quite sometime.  Also a RTX 3080 doesn't degrade in performance in a couple years just something better might come out, so with that being said if a RTX 3080 fits your budget and system now and gives you the performance you like at the resolution you play it should last for the foreseeable future.

This is a clear case of OP just having FOMO and in the end deciding not buy or support a card in the end is great because they fear items that aren't released, tested, or have any merit for buying as of today
