krakkpott reacted to Kronoton in Elon Musk ends $44bn bid to buy Twitter
    Sure, maybe, whatever....

Such a court case could also rip open on when Elon bought and sold shares in conjunction with offering to buy Twitter, backing out, going back in and finally pulling out.
So I'd say "let it rip" and in a best case scenario Twitter dies, Elon gets bankrupted&jailed and Tesla gets a CEO focused on making quality products.

    Nah, not gonna happen.

The problem is, education in the US is expensive. I have $47,000 in student loan debt and I make under $40,000 a year. There are a lot of Americans drowning in student loan debt. Between the cost of eduction, pay, and working conditions some industries struggle. Look at Airlines. They are so pasted fucked that its not funny. Decades of treating staff like shit, keeping wages low and not recruiting new pilots is finally catching up with them. Food service and hospitality are other industries who historically had low wages and poor treatment of workers. They can fill jobs fast enough. Every time I got to the store it seems like they are understaffed, worst at some retailers than others. Another critical industry is transportation. Truck drivers are in short ish supply. Mainly because the cost to become one has increased. You work 24 hours a day and if your lucky you get paid $50,000 a year if no less. Plus there are a plethora of regulations you have to follow.

An act of congress with do fuck all to fix any of these problems. Those old fucks wouldn't know a solution if it came up a bit them in the ass. Loads of money is why our economy is sliding in to a recession currently.

krakkpott reacted to Origami Cactus in Thunderbolt 4 supporting M1 Macs don't support 10Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 leading to 2x worse USB speeds
While Apple hate seems to be a popular past time on this forum, this blunder seems to be on the USB standard corporation, not apple.
USB 4.0 doesn't need to support USB 3.1 Gen 2 (dual lane 5gbit to achieve 10gbit), but it needs to instead support USB 3.2 gen 1 (single 10gbit lane).
You can see that dual lane transfer seems to be optional, from the USB 3.2 gen 2 being "optional".

The original original article,, which you didn't link, but you linked some news site that copied from there, states that they used "basic UGREEN external SSD enclosure" for testing, which is USB 3.1 Gen 2, so to get 10gbit you need 2 lanes, otherwise falls back to 5gbit.

So USB 3 1x2 (10GBit) runs at 5Gbit speed, but USB 3.2 Gen 1 would work fine at 10gbit.

I would say the article is pretty pointless, they should have also tested USB 3.2 enclosures, not only dual lane 3.1.

"Although USB4 is required to support dual-lane modes, it uses single-lane operations during initialization of a dual-lane link; single-lane link can also be used as a fallback mode in case of a lane bonding error."

And because the original article just used a cheap external SSD enclosure, instead of an actual external SSD like Samsung T5, this fallback mode sounds plausible, due to some error in Ugreen external SSD enclosure. And I still don't understand If USB 3.1 Gen 2 needs to be supported by USB 4 at all, seems like only 3.2 10gbit is "required"?  The wikipedia article doesn't make it any clearer, with a confusing stance on dual-lane. One sentance says that it is optional, other says it is required. So either way more testing is needed.

So we can't draw "apple bad" conclusions from that half test, if you can even call that, more that USB specifications are really trash.

I jumped ship to Brave as I had started encountering issues with Firefox on my personal PC, specifically YouTube videos not loading. Now though, I'm considering to go back to Firefox (last tested no longer having that issue), but then I deleted my Firefox account so 😕.

Still using it on my work computer though.

That's because crypto mining is not even close to the biggest contributor of the shortages and people who think it is don't know what they are talking about.

There is 0 evidence that crypto miners have had any significant impact on the shortages.

Edit: I am not sure why people are reacting to this with "funny". I am serious. The whole "it's miners that are causing all the issues" is just some unverified rumor that goes against everything we know for facts. The evidence I am refering to.
    1) Both Nvidia and AMD have said that mining sales are a small portion of their sales. This is not just some PR statement, it's statements from their shareholder meetings.
    2) PC sales are through the roof because of Covid. Supply among regular consumers are through the roof.
    3) Shipping is a nightmare right now which results in long delays for everything.
    4) Sales of everything, including cars and networking equipment are extremely delayed. I order quite a lot of networking equipment and what used to have a delivery time of 3 weeks is now 3 months. Are people going to say that miners are to blame for the custom silicon shortages in firewalls as well?

I just don't get how people can look around them and see extreme delays on everything from cars, firewalls, switches, even mousepads (according to Linus) and then go "yeah, it's miners that are the problem, not the reduced supply and increased demand".
It seems to me like gamers who want to get their hands on the latest graphics cards are frustrated and since it feels better to blame a person, such as a miner, than to blame the global crisis that affects everyone, they pick miners as the scapegoat. It doesn't help that the Internet creates massive echo chambers like this where a big portion of the forum has decided to blame miners (with 0 evidence I might add, unlike the evidence I have laid out here) so people parrot what everyone else have said without questioning it.
