Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from jaslion in is this cpu cooler good for a xeon e5 2680v4?
I'd personally want something a little beefier, but I'm honestly more interested in why you chose an E5 2680v4 for your budget gaming PC.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Godlygamer23 in PCIe 6+2 cable from corsair is incorrect?
You can use both 6+2 connectors simultaneously, and use another cable for the other 6+2 connector, but depends on the graphics card.

What Corsair power supply did you buy/procure?

Crunchy Dragon reacted to -rascal- in PCIe 6+2 cable from corsair is incorrect?
Yes, the solid block of 8-pin connects to the power supply.
The 6+2 on the other end goes to the graphics card.

Depending on WHICH graphics card you have (i.e. power hungry RTX 3080 or RTX 4080), it may be SAFER to use three separate cables.

The one labelled as "CPU" is ONLY for the CPU 8-pin power that plugs into the motherboard.
DO NOT try to force that "CPU" 8-pin into a graphics card...
Unless you want your power supply and / or graphics card to release the irreversible "magic smoke."

I buy in 500 or 1k round boxes at a time, more recently I've been buying a lot of 5.7x28mm. It actually is an amazing handgun round and with all the options on the market now is becoming mainstream.

To me its the better choice than 9mm for a duty handgun. Like comparing 45.70 to .308/5.56. Much milder recoil and better energy deposition on target with FMJ which is what you're bulking up on anyways.

If you put a micro comp on it as well, it literally has no recoil 🙂

    That's kinda nice.

Some games I enjoy are rated M as a byproduct of language, violence, gore, etc. Would be nice to filter my preferences to allow games like those without pornographic or sexual content.

Kind of nonstop since it released. It's very much a Meteora song, in the same way that She Couldn't is Hybrid Theory.

It's a thin laptop, it will run hot, I'd be surprised if it doesn't throttle at all.
The only thing you could do to lower temps is by undervolt, intel 8th gen laptops could still have undervolt settings applied with old BIOS.

No. At this point these things are pretty much designed to sit at 90C day in and day out.

Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Why did people stop liking optical drives in their desktops?
    Yup.

I'm one of the outliers as well, I still buy movies on DVD/BluRay and I still buy CDs, so my optical drive sees a fair amount of use each year, but aside from weirdos such as myself, nobody uses ODDs anymore.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to RONOTHAN## in Overclocking my ram causes my PC to not boot.
It would help to tell exactly what settings you're changing, as well as what the exact parts involved are (RAM model number and speed bin, motherboard model number and revision if applicable, and CPU, as well as the BIOS revision). It could be as simple as you need to pull the battery for a minute to cause the board to hard reset all the training algorithms, you could need to reflash the BIOS, it could be there's a setting you need to change in order to go for higher frequencies than stock, it could just be that your motherboard or CPU just can't handle the memory speeds you're trying to hit. There's so many different things that it could be that without knowing any of the other information surrounding it, it's impossible to tell what you need to do.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to NF-A12x25 in Overclocking my ram causes my PC to not boot.
probably you’re just changing the speed without changing anything else? In that case, you should learn how to overclock before touching any more BIOS settings.

Or maybe your CPU/mobo just can’t handle ram that’s as fast as, say, the XMP profile you’re trying to enable. So we’d need a full spec list as well as all the settings you’re changing, like Ronothan said.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to RONOTHAN## in Why did people stop liking optical drives in their desktops?
You are also probably one of the only people left doing that. It takes up space in the front of the case that could be used for more fans and it's added cost for a feature that realistically 98% of people would never want. Movies and music have largely been moved to streaming with services like Netflix and Spotify, and general data transfer has been taken over by the prevalence of cheap USB drives. There are still people who have a use case for it, but it's just no where close to as common a use case as it was 5+ years ago.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to RONOTHAN## in Temperatures looking odd
The chipset is at 23C, the CPU itself is at 35C according to that reading.

That said, I have no idea what software that is, and AMD CPUs in particular can cause funky readings with certain programs, so I personally wouldn't trust any software but HWINFO64 or Ryzen Master.

Thats not how any of that works.

You need to modify your card and have a SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR THAT CARD bios to do this.

Btw it doesnt do much just ups clocks and boosting behavior ehich can be done with just a vega 56 bios

Higher clocks and boosting only possible on reference models. Did it on mine because it was in a waterloop brought 10% performance gains pretty neat
