Stories Untold is a surprisingly wonderful text-based horror game! It did a very good job reeling me in, building up tension, and then keeping it there. I would highly encourage everyone to play it if they feel like playing a new genre.

This moment actually scared me the most. No spoilers.

Found 403Gb in "temporary" files on my drive today. Leaving a total of 50Gb free space on the local disk.

So naturally, being the techie that I am, I immediately looked at pricing for a new 1Tb drive instead of finding and deleting the files taking up space.

Until I realized what I was doing and found and deleted the files.

So that's my not-so-bright moment of the day.

    Bad news guys...

Paypal sent me a 1099-K for my earnings.

Apparently I made about $22,000 worth of sales through paypal over the year 2017, so now I have to pay taxes on it whether I like it or not (hint, I don't). Note that this is nowhere close to my actual earnings, as I now have to go through my entire years worth of expenses to deduct the total taxable balance down to 10K instead.

    Good news:

Since I now much pay taxes, I can operate as a sole proprietorship. I can now deduct costs for running my business such as:

    1. Ebay fees
    2. Paypal fees
    3. Shipping fees
    4. Packaging fees
    5. car payments
    6. Gas
    7. The thousands of dollars of equipment I bought to run my business.
    9. Original cost of purchasing the things I sold.
    10. Any food I may have spent on the road.

Basically anything to run my business.

Yeah sure IRS, that Z77 motherboard, i7-3770K and 16GB of RAM are totally a business expense, and definitely not a thing for a friends PC build. I also get to write off some of the things equipment I used to build my ebike like battery connectors, chargers and wire harnesses because I did end up using those to run my business.

Since I am filing taxes as in independent this year rather than a dependent on my dads taxes, I can declare a 6000 something standard tax deduction on my earnings after my business deductions and $4000 as a personal exemption deduction for filing as an independent. This will being my total taxable income to only about $1000. Since I will be in the 10% tax bracket I will only need to pay about $200 in actual federal and state income taxes.

Since this income is taxed, I now can legally max out my Roth IRA for the year of 2017. I'm going to contribute the full $6000 to it since I now have to pay taxes on that income.

On an unrelated topic, if you have a good paying job I fully expect you to be maxing out both your 401K and your IRA. If you are not doing either yet, then it tells me that you are spending too much money on crap you don't need. Only buy the crap after these two things are maxed out.

    Bad news:

We have this ponzi scheme here in the US called "social security" where I as a business owner must pay 15% of my income after all my business expenses and before my standard and personal tax exemption. Because of this, I will have to pay around $1500 into social security and medicare on my earnings this year.

Historically the united states has only earned 2% on social security, so why can't we just privatize it? If you are going to force me to save, at least let me do what I want with my money. If I took that 1.5K and dumped into the SP500, I would earn 6% a year vs the shitty 2% it gets in social security where it doesn't even keep up with inflation.

That $1500 will probably end up going into a social security check for my grandma, so I guess I can think of it that way. Admittedly she will probably use it better than I would.

Seriously mam, f*@k social security! All it teaches people is they can rely on the government to help them out in retirement because they were idiots who didn't save, and tied up a ton of their income into their house! It's a f$cking ponzi scheme that needs to be privatized, or die!

    The silver lining:

So you know how I have to now pay around $1750 in taxes now? Guess what, I can pay those with a credit card. I am looking at signing up for the american express gold charge card and by meeting the $2000 minimum spend, I can get about 100,000 amex points. This is enough points for a free plane ticket to hawaii + a 5-day night in a fancy hotel all for free. Looks like my spring break is gonna by pretty fun then. Alternatively I could just open a credit card with a cash bonus and reduce my total tax payment slightly.

Death and taxes are the only two certain things in life.

Finding it interesting seeing how popular AMD was back in the day on my hunt for older parts, practically all the CPUs and boards I see from the early 2000s era are all AMD Athlons of some kind. I don't think I've seen even 4 boards/CPUs on LGA 771/775.
