Just put it on its side and instantly get rid of gpu sag. That said if you are running an AIO or liquid loop I guess that might not be an option.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from BSittery in GTA 6 production falling behind, possibility of delay
Honestly part of me just wishes they wouldn't tell release dates that are so far out. I mean the chances of the release date forecasted that far out being accurate is super unrealistic. It's way nicer when you hear about a game's release date and its within the next couple of months and is actually accurate.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from rikitikitavi in Does upgrading my laptop from 16inch to 18inch makes major difference?
If I really needed a bigger display I would just hook up the laptop to a monitor. Honestly if you hook up a keyboard and mouse as well then you can usually use a laptop like a desktop. Also keep in mind that there are portable monitors if you are concerned about portability. Also you can use it in conjunction with your laptop screen to run a 2 monitor solution giving way more space.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from da na in Under 14? No social media for you!
Letting kids have wine a meal vs Letting kids have unlimited access to social media are way different. Not only that I think parents could expose their kids to social media in small amounts even with this law in place so not sure it makes any sense to not allow the law. Also not sure what would be the healthy equivalent of social media use would even be for a kid.

The suicide rate had a dramatic rise when kids had access to social media so not really sure the idea that not being able to talk to people all the time is a fair point. Also this is even assuming that kids would be talking to each other rather than doom scrolling or any number of psychologically destructive behaviors. I would even bet that use of social media leads to less social interaction ironically enough.

2560x1080p is 1080p ultrawide. If you wanted to run normal 1080p you would need to run in a windowed mode and would only cover a portion of the screen.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from BSittery in Apple terminates Epic Games Developer Account (again)
Epic games went and violated apples terms of service. Epic games went and sued and the court determined that apple is justified in the banning and can ban them. Sure this did end up leading to the EUs new laws that require side loading and other regulations but that is a separate issue. Honestly it would be a bad example to make if they let epic get away with violating tos and litigating them about it. The idea that apple should get fined for following a courts determination is super dumb.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from Eigenvektor in NVIDIA VS AMD for (mostly competitive) gaming
10s of milliseconds between 60hz and 360hz and the setting on is extremely underwhelming. I would imagine if you used amds version it wouldn't be a big difference and again you are only taking one part of the input lag into account in a large chain of input lag. The difference between 10ms and 20ms is alot more noticeable than say 60ms vs 70ms.

Yes. 4 DIMM configs are notoriously bad with DDR5 with 4x32GB/4x48GB being a special breed of bad, at best being limited to super slow memory speeds like 4400MT/s, or at worst the system just not booting.

Then don't run 4 DIMMs of memory.

Yes, boot times will be atrocious, memory speeds will be atrocious, and if you aren't using that memory there isn't any reason to do this.

If you're dead set on having a ludicrous amount of RAM, get 2x48GB as that should work at something like 6000 CL30/6400 CL32 without too much trouble. From my experience, boot times will still likely be terrible, but no where near as bad as 4x32GB or 4x48GB.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from IkeaGnome in Apple terminates Epic Games Developer Account (again)
What main competitor? Epic? They banned epic a long time ago and they just happened to ban Epics Swedish account and probably in large part because they were criticizing apples new tos. They basically think epic is going to not comply with the new tos and when Apple trys to ban them for not complying they will likely sue again like they did in the past. I would say that such a scenario isn't out of the question. I could easily see epic pulling such a stunt based on Tim's prior conduct and the way he is currently talking about apples tos.

Brooksie359 reacted to OddOod in Tips for limiting smartphone screen time and addiction?
Honestly, same path as any other addiction. You have to identify what's triggering you to go to these apps and address those problems. Addiction is not and has never been about the specific drug, it's a mental health issue. There are stressors in your life that your brain is trying to hide from, address those and you should be able to easily kick the habit and even indulge in them in healthy ways.
I personally have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (guided by a therapist) coupled with mindfulness meditation (I like square breathing) to be a very powerful set of tools for keeping my brain in check. Even after dealing with all of the (honestly remarkably mild) trauma in my life, just having a professional listener to talk to every month helps keep me on balance. A couple years ago I added some Vitamin D3 (2000IU) to the mix and these days I'm pretty happy.

Anyone know if Google Play Games Beta on PC uses WSL or not? I think they use their own emulator but not sure. So on that note, if people really wanted to run Android apps or whatever, they can still run other emulators. A problem for some is that the Amazon store version is separate from the Google Play environment, so I think that would in itself limit adoption.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from PDifolco in Apple terminates Epic Games Developer Account (again)
It was in the lawsuit but I think the biggest violation was circumventing apples payment system to sell in app items. Sure now they would be allowed to do that but at the time when they violated tos it wasn't allowed. This is what started the original lawsuit and the court basically gave Apple the go ahead to permaban epic.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from GoStormPlays in Omdia has calculated the cost of components for the Apple Vision Pro
Yeah I think most won't bother to account for tooling as that is alot like R&D and is mostly an upfront cost. That said I wouldn't doubt that the tooling wouldn't be a significant cost if they don't do large volume sales as tooling tends to be more economical the more you produce.

Brooksie359 got a reaction from Sauron in NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang: Don't learn computer science. The future is human language (AI code generation)
Yeah my thought are similar in the sense that people who know coding can use AI to write code or parts of code to speed up their process. All of that said you still need to learn coding to use it effectively making Nvidia's CEOs statements super dumb imo. I mean I don't think AI changes how much code your colleague has to know.

Having more options for fabs is great especially because right now companies are so reliant on TSMC that it would be a very scary situation if something happened to tsmc or its supply chain.
