PlayStation 2 got a reaction from captainzero in Is Linus unaware of what content type works?
Go complain about target viewing somewhere else.
Some people genuinely enjoy the quirkier or less popular things. I, for one, really enjoyed the minivans Doug DeMuro reviewed, even if a lot of you couldn't give a shit.

PlayStation 2 got a reaction from BuckGup in Does Youtube Support H.265?
From everything I've tried, YouTube will only encode a video into VP9 under certain parameters:
1. if that video is "1440p" or higher, frame rate doesn't matter as long as it's 6fps or higher (it either has to be 2560 pixels wide or 1440 pixels tall, or around there depending on if the video is vertical or not)
2. if YouTube determines that the view count warrants it
3. if that video was a stream, it'll automatically convert it to VP9 and Opus once it gets to encoding it
4. if that video is encoded with HDR data and YouTube can actually read it
What used to be 5 was that editing a video in any manner would also trigger it, but that changed in November of last year so that it won't automatically trigger a re-encode to VP9 and Opus unless that video was in that format to begin with
It's... strange, but that's kinda how YouTube works. Sometimes the Opus track will trigger without encoding a VP9 track and vice versa. It's bizarre.

PlayStation 2 reacted to D13H4RD in "They took our Rebels!" - Q2 fares worse for Canon's imaging division
Stop me if you've heard this one before. "Camera sales declining because smartphones"
Well, it's much the same story here, as Canon's report for Q2 comes out, and as per expectations, the imaging division continues to post a dip in sales, albeit much more significantly than before.
While this slide is mostly in the sales of the entry-level lineup of ILCs such as the Rebel lineup (which has historically been where Canon's bottom line mainly stems from when it comes to digital imaging products), sales of higher-end cameras are also on a slight dip, mainly owing to Canon's slow entry in the high-end mirrorless market. Although Canon expects this segment to improve as a higher-end body and future RF lenses come to play.
Essentially, focus is shifting from the lower-end to the higher-end market, where the market size is much smaller and where sales over time are much lower but returns per unit can be much higher.
Time will tell on how well companies like Canon and Nikon can adapt to this shift in the market, given how the smartphone is eating away at the low-end and competition is only getting stiffer in the high-end.

Can we get a picture of what the issue is? It's a little hard to imagine what you're explaining.

PlayStation 2 reacted to CarlBar in Rockstar North - Gets UK Subsidies & Avoids Paying Tax
From reading the article the EU is largely to blame. They ban any kind of subsidising of non-struggling industries. So they had to limit it to UK centric games. GTA squeaks in from what i cna see because it rather famously first started here in the UK, it;s effectively a UK brand even if the setting isn't UK.

PlayStation 2 reacted to Bcat00 in Rockstar North - Gets UK Subsidies & Avoids Paying Tax
I don't see the issue here. If the fact that Rockstar could take such a huge sum shows that the country have almost no other developer so kudos to them for being smart. It's not like the other game companies couldn't apply, they just didn't or didn't even know about the program. if anyone is to blame its the government or department in charge of this program.

PlayStation 2 reacted to Calamity1911 in Does Youtube Support H.265?
I'm not sure if anyone is reading this thread anymore, but I just tested something for myself.
I rendered a clip in H265 and uploaded it to youtube, and it appears to have transcoded it to H264/AVC. Bummer.
Because of this, I will wait for a day or so to see if it does change to VP9, but I would not recommend rendering/transcoding it on your own as it seems to be ridiculously slow.
Here's some information for some context:
- Base file size was 1.2GB @ 33mbps bitrate, 5 minutes (ish) long
- H.265 NVENC encoder used, bitrate of 7mbps (quality was quite similar to the AVC coded source)
- Render time of 35 seconds and a file size of ~500MB
- With VP9 (not accelerated with hardware) it took 25 minutes at the same bitrate
- VP9 quality was a tiny bit lower than H265
I'll update this later in regards to if youtube transcodes it to VP9
Also my channel took a copyright strike for even uploading it as a private video, not scheduled to be public and youtube blocked it in all countries (even though it's private?)

PlayStation 2 reacted to Majinhoju in Xbox one x or PS4 Pro
I guess it comes down to what you want to play.
Xbox has the typical Microsoft exclusives, Halo, Gears, Forza etc.. plus has a selection of some classic Xbox and Xbox 360 games you can play as well.
PS4 has Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider Man, God of War etc..
If exclusives don't matter to you the Xbox One X has a bit more power to it.

That's called "working around broken tax laws".
They're written by corporations to rape the taxpayer but not the companies that could be contributing to it. Not a shock that R* is exploiting them to hell.

PlayStation 2 got a reaction from TacoSenpai in Why are so many people against consoles?
I wanna chime in a little more on why consoles are very appealing to more people than a PC is:
Ever tried using a controller on a PC? Unless you're using a Steam Controller (in which if you are, you're fucking insane), it's almost impossible to do normal things unless you're running specific things that do support controllers, and that usually doesn't include browsers. Yeah, there's things like Kodi and Steam's Big Picture mode, but coming from someone who's used the latter, it can be very clunky and kinda slow even on good hardware, especially the browser.
On a console, you can do just about everything with just the controller. And lemme tell you, that's far more preferable compared to having to use a mediocre game launcher to do web browsing with a controller.

As I understand it (although it was before my time), it was to allow things other than the forums to be hosted on the domain - the site used to be Linus's blog before the forum came around. It might end up getting dropped, but there's no particular reason to do so other than aesthetics.

PlayStation 2 reacted to Zodiark1593 in Are there any out of the ordinary habits that you picked up from or when using tech?
I tend to double tap the 0 key on the nums pad whenever I go to press it. This habit was adopted to sidestep a seemingly minor, but pretty infuriating (and will probably never be fixed for a decade or so,) bug in Infor LN.
Kind of an aside, while I've toyed with the idea of bringing a tenkeyless to work at one point, primarily because space is exceedingly limited and I run mouse sensitivity at maximum to compensate, losing the nums pad would hit my speed pretty brutally (LN hotkeys and rapidly typing number strings). The minor improvement in ergonomics isn't worth it if I lose out heavily on efficiency. Probably the only way a tenkeyless setup would work without losing speed is a separate nums pad on my left, though then I lose quick access to the very important Tab key...

PlayStation 2 reacted to mr moose in are free windows activators ilegal
This, I have a 7 PC the same, it was legit and I replaced the motherboard (original borked) I am entitled to reactivation but couldn't be arsed and just left it running inactivated.
If you don't want to pay for a license (for whatever reason, I don't personally care), then at least just run non activated and avoid the issues that might arise from dodgy activator apps and buying OEM licenses from 3rd parties.

PlayStation 2 reacted to SolidSonicTH in Build of shame...
UPDATE: So...my RAM arrived...and it still failed.
Turns out I had to extract the entire motherboard (was a PAIN; cases with great cable management seem to have handicaps when it comes to disassembly) because I noticed something out of sorts with the CPU socket. After getting my eye right up against it, I saw I had two bent pins. Using a SIM tool and guidance taken from Linus, I reset the pins then reassembled the computer. And now it's finally running properly, all 32Gs detected and in proper dual channel mode.

PlayStation 2 reacted to mr moose in Getting old work computer - decent for gaming?
Yep, I'd buy one if for nothing else to use as a NAS, but it would be a decent system, and as said before a 570 would be more than ample for most games.
