Yea... im asking a friend of mine who has taken some photography courses for some resources that will hopefully send me in the right direction... that and google... haha

Yes, I guess that is one valid reason to consider.... however there are many manufacturers that make those now.... and usually pretty cheap.  I'm sure that Panasonic has no intent on this being a "entry level" product....Also there is considerable time involved with ripping vinyl to digital... I've done it, but only for albums that I really did not feel like buying again on CD's.

Looking forward to Halo 5 and battlefront... those will probably be all I have time for because of school....

Well then.. try linux to start... I agree with @Opask.. ubuntu of some variation would be a good starting point.  I would inform him of linux and how it functions (command driven.. with a gui for fun) and let him research it, see if it something he is interested in getting involved with and let him make the choice.  I can say that if you are not ready to learn new things and just want a OS to work, then windows is the obvious choice, there is a premium but it may be worth it to your friend depending on his mindset.

Zen is what AMD will create to finally be intel's level. By the time it gets released intel will have their own cpus to counter it so you choice will be quite diverse in q3 and q4 next year. Zen will far better then 10-15% increase it will like at least 50% performance increase. Wait for Zen and see Intel's reaction is my advice.

Well do you mean in field recording... if so Sony MDR 7506 or MDRV6 headphones are the standard... they are closed headphones, hope that helps.

mmmh don't know if it qualifies as "tech" but some old interactive toy called "Merlin -The Electric Wizard".  Basically a Bopit like thing with six games, the box says it was made in 1979.

yea, it is not good.... the Canadian dollar has plummeted as a result.

No one knows what to expect from China... in terms of their economic/industrial growth, which relies on oil, so that scares people.
Production is increasing, from more countries vying for their slice of the pie, with stagnant consumption rates causing more oil to be available than needed.

So the headset terminates in a USB?  If so, then there is little that can be done, without modding it... and that would probably be a adventure.  Best bet would be to look into a external dac/amp and a new headset if it is really really bad.

Thought I would throw this out here for you guys looking for a very high quality pair of cans.

It is generally creepy, all forms of monitoring. imo facial scanning technologies take the cake.  If you live in a major metropolitan city (chicago, new york, london etc.)and a a social media junkie (taking selfies and being a general twat) you probably have a very detailed facial profile and can be identified easily at any time.  If that does not disturb you, well you don't value your freedom.

I'm thinking (and hoping) by then zen will be out or really close to, hopefully forcing some actual innovation from intel. Also by then DDR4 should be on the same level or near DDR3 now, which will be when upgrading or building will be truly worth the investment.
