8GB of RAM isn't enough. PIC!

I was playing GTA V on my friends PC and the system ram was only 200-300mb shy of 8gb. Similarly video ram was in excess of 3.5GB so GG GTX 970 owners.

So a warning to everyone building a PC. Make sure you get a GPU better than 970 (290X/390X or 980/980 TI) and 16GB of RAM if you want to play AAA titles on ultra settings.

PC Specs:

5820k OC'd to 4.2Ghz

16GB DDR4 2400Mhz RAM

EVGA GTX 980 OC'd to 1480/7600

Game settings:

1080p (peasant I know)

Ultra everything

No MSAA

Keep in mind unused RAM is wasted RAM.

For almost any current title 8gb is sufficient  but yeah I also hit the limit of 8gb playing GTA V and Heavily modded Skyrim.

Doesn't this game use less VRAM when there's less available (up to a point)? Quite sure it's not reasonable at this time to sell PC games that are unplayable with less than 4GB of VRAM.

Same thing for me.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

I know how you feel. 8gb is nowhere near enough to power intensive applications on 4 monitors (one for each monitor)

I never said anything about unplayable. It's just that you are gonna have a bad time unless you like turning down settings.

When you have more RAM, your programs will use more RAM.

I have a 4x4 GB kit of ram right now, and I notice another 1-3 GB of usage with the other 2 sticks in, despite not changing my daily usage routine.

If you had 8GB of RAM in that system, it'd probably be close to 5-6GB of usage rather than nearly 8.

Do you even 1440?

Sorry but there is something wrong with your system.

It doesn't consume this much for me and I have youtube on chrome running the background, and we all know how much of a Ram hog chrome is.

On AMD Phenom II and 7770?

Still does not fill up 4GB DDR# at 1080p, and more than playable.
