Holy ballz my CPU did incredibly well!
 
I ripped my original PS2 copy (PAL 50FPS)
 
I might even try more games on this...
 
4K PS2 anyone?
 
Proof of hardware owned.
 
And yes i use a CRT for my retro consoles, you mad? I am an enthusiast..

Nice. I never could get PCSX2 to work properly on my computer. Have there been any major software updates within the last year or so on it?

They did a final release a while ago, it's officially out of beta :)

Quad Core support... it seems to really help AMD CPU's...

should get the ntsc 60fps version

 

also ya ps2 emulation > real console because of upscaling and texture filtering. even sweetfx works.

I will rip me some more games to test properly, plus my CPU is limited to GSDX version SSE2 as it does not support AVX ect like FX and Core i series which gives them a good boost in performance.

Onimusha 2 ran ridiculously well and has a choice of 50hz or 60hz, so i chose 60... heck it pushed my GPU to the edge in some scenes but never faltered from 60FPS ever... highly impressive and a beautiful looking game in 4K.... truly shows what kind of power the PS2 had to have such impressive character models...

 

BTW guys i'm not using the R9 390 for these tests, this is the 7770 1GB...

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4, this only has 50hz... but it has a nice option for Widescreen 16:9, so it looks great with no cropping and no stretched models :)

 

Perfect FPS throughout.

Jesus... This game i expected the CPU to have a problem with... SH2 was one of the best games out on PS2 using some of the most advanced techniques in that generation no matter what platform... but...

 

PCSX2 has come amazingly far, it's so well made that SH2 crippled my GPU LOOOOONG before the CPU, CPU is hardly touched whilst my GPU tanks at 4K due to the fog being rendered at that resolution.

 

However dropping to 1920x1080 with 4xMSAA... the 7770 loved that!

Oh jeeze i only went and tried Tekken pissing 5 in 60hz mode with 16:9...

 

4K crippled the poor 7770, but 1920x1080 is smooth as butter with 4xMSAA.

 

Strange though when scaling to higher than native res Tekken 5 has thin vertical black lines...

 

Also showing off that i can smash Ultra Hard AI in T5 LOL.

Gran Turismo 4 PAL 50hz in 16:9...

 

This is a CPU/GPU/VRAM hog all in one... i cannot run this game in 4096x2160 AT ALL!

 

1920x1080 with no AA is the only playable option for the 7770, as the Vram fills at the start of a race then when the race begins the Vram will flush.

 

Framerates in game (menu and racing) are perfect, sketchy FPS is just before the race (rolling start where Vram fills) and switching camera's in replay will cause a split second pause, but the game is fully playable with no other glitches, and a smooth full framerate during races.

 

 

I did notice how grainy and odd this game looks even at 1920x1080 though...

I will be testing Dead or Alive 2, but my copy will not boot, the emu crashes upon opening, i will have to retrieve the Japanese version in order to emulate it, which is not illegal since i own the damn game anyway, it's just a different language :P

Big titty simulator... i mean dead or Alive 2...

 

JP version at 60hz, only playable at 1920x1080 with no AA -perfect 60FPS, GPU hit's 99% usage and tanks the framerate with MSAA and at 4k.

Metal Gear Solid 2 50hz.

 

 

Sold framerates throughout at 1920x1080 with no AA, 4xMSAA is too much for the 7770 and 4k is not doable, even the main menu saw FPS drops.

Resident Evil 4 Progressive scan 60hz.

 

1920x1080 + 4xMSAA solid 60FPS throughout. 4K drops FPS to 40-45FPS.

NICEEEE. I'm gonna try it out within the next week or so.

Finally. This is something Dolphin never got the hang of. It runs awfully worse on AMD CPUs because it only uses 2 cores.

The dolphin team got a new member who figured out how to cut the load in half for nearly all games. Heavy games like twilight princess used to be unplayable on my fx 6300, (10-15fps) but ever since they updated with the new dev, it runs at a perfect 30fps, even at 4k.
