Asrock G10 gaming router - Asrock's first gaming router

Last week, Asrock revealed some new products that they will be shown in Computex this year, which one of them is the G10 gaming router ( http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/376256-asrock-unveils-z170-motherboards-socket-lga-1151-skylake-they-look-fantastic/). This is the Asrock's first router, and from those news articles reoported from Computex, and leaked slides from a Singapore tech site HardWareZone.com.sg, that router has some special features.

Firstly, it is a router, and it is a AC2600, dual band, 4T4R 802.11ac router. It also support Qualcomm's MU-MIMO solution. Similar to most of the routers of this class, it has 1 Wan port, 4 Lan ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports. According to the leaked slides on HardwareZone.com.sg, the router was powered by Qualcomm dual-core IPQ8064 Internet Processor @ 1.4 GHz. with unknown amount of ram and flash rom. The dual band AC wifi was powered by  Qualcomm's QCA9980 chip, while the ethernet part was powered by the QCA8337 chip.

This router has a flaming red, angular shape chassis, with a big led on the front of the router, which can be used to show router's current status. According to Japanese media PC Watch,  this design was inspired by the character Char Aznable from the Mobile Suit Gundam series, who was also nicknamed "The Red Comet" because he loves to paint his mecha red, and they are always three times faster than their mundane counterparts.

Besides the usual router capabilities, this router also has some special features. Firstly there are infra-red transmitter on the front and rear of the router, which the router can act as a universal remote.  You can download an app onto yr smartphone, to learn the codes of other infra-red devices, and to remote control yr home appliances via this router.

Secondly, this router is integrated with a grey color wireless HDMI dongle. The dongle has a hdmi port on the front, a power port and a WAN port on the rear. Normally The dongle was docked at the top of the router. But when it was removed from the router, it could be act independently as a Miracast receiver, or a travel router (I'm not sure if I read this part right or not, as the leaked info just stated "support travel router). According to the leaked slides, the grey dongle itself is a 2T2R 802.11n router, with support of Miracast, Airplay and DLNA.

PC Watch reported the router would be announced later this June, and it could be pricing at $249 in the US. It is not the most expensive one, but it is still a lot of money to ask for, on par with routers like Asus's RT-AC87U ($235 on newegg). Will you consider this router if it was priced at $249?

Lol. You should never paint a router red. Asus understood this when they started to make their routers. In my opinion a router should look nice and simple and be colored either black or white. Not red, it's stupid and makes it harder to hide.

Can't wait to see performance tests n stuff, but it looks hideous. Even if the specs are stellar, the color is a complete turnoff, I'd never get one.

How hard would it be to just make it black?

I don't know whether it's the color of the paint or the actual matte-looking finish on it, but it reminds me of the wax coating on the outside of Babybel cheese.

Think it'll support the open source router firmwares? That's the nice thing about Asus routers.

nothing can make bf4 playable. U spent more time troubleshooting and restarting than actually playing. And I am so addicted I've clocked over 400 hours. ; - ;
