100TB+ Server build log (151TB to be precise)

looney

I cant put a schnitzel tag in a build log so I'll just start of by saying schnitzel, now on to the actual build log:

100TB+ Server build log (151TB to be precise)

The planning phase is done and the parts are starting to arrive so I think its time for a build log.
The system will basically be two Supermicro chassis with a lot of hard-drives.

Specs:
Here is a list of the components that have been ordered.

1x Supermicro SuperServer 6027TR-DTRF
1x Supermicro SC847 E16-RJBOD1
1x LSI MegaRAID SAS 9286 8e SGL 8
1x LSI MegaRAID LSIiBBU09
33x Seagate Barracuda Desktop 4 TB (ST4000DM000)
2x Intel Xeon E5-2650V2 - 2.6 GHz - 8 cores - 16 threads
2x Intel Xeon E5-2609V2 - 2.5 GHz - 4 cores - 4 threads
4x Kingston ValueRAM Server Premier - 16GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC Reg CL13 DIMM
4x Kingston ValueRAM Server Premier - 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC Reg CL13 DIMM
2x Samsung 850 Pro 512GB
2x Samsung 850 Pro 1TB
2x SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16GB
4x Supermicro MCP-220-00043-0N

About the server:
If you Google the part numbers you will see that the two chassis are not both actual servers.
One of them is a twin server (two motherboards in one chassis), that way I can have two systems in one chassis:
A powerful server with two 8 core CPU's and the 16GB Dims for visualization.
And the other server will have the less powerfull quadcore CPU's, the 8GB dims and a powerful RAID-card to manage the storage.

The second chassis is just a JBOD chassis.
The JBOD only holds hard-drives and everything that is needed to control the hard-drives. (SAS expander and PSU)

More info about the system will be added as the build log progresses.

Updates:
Post 1 Receiving fist parts & Installing SSD's in the drivebays.

Post 2 Receiving the second shipment.

Post 3 Unboxing the small box with parts.

Post 4 Unboxing the Supermicro SuperServer 6027TR-DTRF.

Post 5 Unboxing the Supermicro SC847 E16-RJBOD1.

more updates are to come very soon, I expect most of the parts to arrive tomorrow (12/01/2015)

Receiving fist parts & Installing SSD's in the drivebays.

So far I have received the flowing parts:
usb.jpg
These two USB flash drives will be used to install ESXi On.
The SSD's will be for the VM datastores.

hdds.jpg
I also received 3 out of 33 hard-drives, in total the system will have 37 4TB drives though as I will reuse 4 from my old server.
I will end up making 2 arrays:
RAID-60 array with 32x4TB and a RAID-5 array with 4x4TB which leaves one 4TB as a global hot spare.

ssds.jpg
These SSD's will be used to for running the VM's on the storage node, the VM node will have 1TB SSD's.
The SSD's will be running in RAID-1 for redundancy

drivebays.jpg
The stock Supermicro drive bays don't support 2.5" drives.
I had to buy 4 of these drive bays to mount the SSD's in my server.

ssdreadytoinstall.jpg
Time to install the SSD's in the drive bays.

They are simply installed with 4 screws on the side of the SSD's.

Here are some more pics I took:

Holy hell what do you need 150TB for!? How much is this costing you?

Why I need this you ask?

My current server is like this:
