Snapchat: 100 thousand files breached

Snapchat users that thought the files they had sent through this app had been deleted might be in risk of seeing their photos and videos published online.

 

A group of cyber criminals has been intercepting photos and videos from Snapchat for years and has now compiled those files onto a database now available on 4chan.

 

The case has already been baptized 'The Snappening' and it started with a website that users thought was used to (and appeared) to catalog files sent through Snapchat, but it was actually collecting all the photos and videos sent. Even though there still isn't official confirmation one of the main suspects is Snapsave.com, that, in theory, was supposed to let use catalog their 'snaps' online.

 

In total 13GB of data were stolen, without even needing to hack Snapchat's servers, says Business Insider.

 

The database with these Snapchat files was initially stored on viralpop.com, a website that installs malicious software on the devices that try to access the information. This website was meanwhile shutdown but thousands of users were able to download the files. Among the stolen data there is a large quantity of pornography, some that might be from teenagers between 13 and 17, which make for 50% of Snap chat users.

I can't believe so. But it's the users' faults for using third party apps for Snapchat. Besides, I do use it, but I just use the apps.

I actually use Snapchat. I think it is a lot of fun tbh.

All of my friends post funny stuff on it. Don't really care about the breach though. Haven't posted anything questionable on it.

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I have an account, I manly just view other people's snaps. I don't really think you should send very risque pics though.

my problem with this statement, is that yes, this is a tech forum, and yes, we know, that we can build a mac that worth £2500 out of £300, and yes, internet and stuff, many people do not, as it is not that simple

 

I go to the shop and buy a shampoo. I read all the ingredients then I smell it. I know it is on the shelves, so it must be usable on humans and it does smell good so I buy it

 

about the ingredients? I cannot understand chemistry, so  I have no clue, what does the shampoo actually do

 

 

Please do not expect everyone to be an expert at networking, as they have been told that it is safe, and well, did the picture disappeared?

I was on a 8-day cruise in the Carribean once, the British white girls were so annoying. Constantly cutting the line, using their iPhones (wtf a fifth-grader has an iPhone) and talking in a snotty voice.
