Steamboy Machine [Steam Handheld?]

d3sl91

Just found this wonderful thing:

http://www.steamboymachine.com/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM63RuEhgHU

Handheld Steambox developed by a third party startup, "Steamboy Machine". Very little details, and the video was just released late yesterday, and for all I could find, it could be fake. As with any startups, it will be interesting to see if this gets any traction.

Thoughts?

Looks interesting but NVIDIA's Shield is a better idea and a real thing.

This just reams of a Kickstarter campaign that's going to fail after reaching a $2,000,000 goal and piss everyone off. I don't think Valve would want to risk something like that happening considering they're making it appear to be a Steam licensed device. But it wouldn't surprise me if this thing was just a concept.

Specs? What is the size of that thing?

If it comes true it will be either so weak that it can't even play 10 year old 2D games or it it will be massive for a handheld.

Yeah, the only way I see something like this being cool is if it's an Android powered device that has Steam streaming built in, but we already have an NVIDIA shield...

NVIDIA needs to market the shit out of the Shield, that way developers can optimize for it. If this thing streams in home games than cool beans but if that's all it does than what's the point of it? It's a 1 trick pony...

Probably just a concept and a pretty odd one at that, its like what's the appeal as a portable device? It looks very odd as it is and oddly long for a tablet device so hard to imagine anyone using it in public.

I'm sure this will get a lot of hype, but we aren't sure if it's just another Nvidia Shield or a (by the looks of it) portable device that actually runs SteamOS. I admit, it would be pretty cool to play TF2 and lots of other games on something like this.

Build: CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k | CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo | Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 | RAM: 8GB G-Skill Ares 1600Mhz CL9 | Storage: 120GB Samsung 840 Evo + WD Blue 1TB 64MB Cache + Seagate Barracuda 2TB 64MB Cache | GPU: MSI GTX 960 | Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer | Power Supply: EVGA 600B Non-Modular |

The steamboy seems a little chunky. But if it's x86 perhaps it can succeed where the Nvidia Shield has found mixed success at best.

I call BS to this one.

Valve wouldn't just let a company develop this with all their logos all over it.

The website is registered to someone in Palma de Mallorca Spain so..

Emulation?

If it has at least a 720p(1080p preferred) screen, then it's cool with me. Would be sweet on the go or at a friend's house.

Id still rather an nvidia shield u arent stuck with just steam games so if u want to play something like battlefield u can also nvidias streaming is miles better than steam in home atm (i know its going to get better but at this point in time nvidia is better)

Off topic: Nvidia give me gpu streaming god damn it!

Well you need a Nvidia GPU for that...

You also do know that you can add games that aren't bought from Steam into your Library and you can launch them? Right? So...you aren't just tied to Steam.

I'd rather have this and use in-home streaming so I can play everything anywhere I want in my house with my computer rendering everything.

If valve has anything to do with the project, it'll never come to market in my lifetime. Look how long its taking them to make just a controller... half life 3... please. I'm not holding my breath.

The concept is cool, but the name... it's like when companies add "i" before a product to sound like Apple wannabe. Leave the "*boy" moniker to Nintendo.

Yes, any .exe. You might need to start the whole process of Battlelog on the PC, but once it's fullscreen of the game, it's good to go.

Steam in home streaming can stream almost any program even those that aren't games. Also if someone actually made a x86 SteamOS handheld you could do many things to it compared to a Nvidia Shield that requires an Nvidia card
