Sony Is Skipping E3 2019 and Won’t Host Their Own PlayStation Experience

Rohith_Kumar_Sp

So sony has decided to pull out of E3 next year, won't be surprised if Microsoft did the same as all smoke trails lead to Next New Gen Console as rumored in 2020.

Quote

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

The decision to pull out of E3 comes not long after the report that the company will not be hosting their own PlayStation Experience (PSX) event either, as Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Shawn Layden put it:

Quote

“Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down in 2019 to games like Dreams and Days Gone, but we wouldn’t have enough to bring people together in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”

Smart. Sometimes it feels like companies are desperate to hype the living daylights out of what they have only to end up shooting themselves in the foot.

E3 is turning into a giant shareholders meeting anyway, it started in 2017 but was really bad this year with Microsoft, EA & Ubisoft all focusing more on business decisions than games.

I reckon E3 is going to become less and less relevant as time goes on, Nintendo don't care about it anymore, Sony probably won't go back again if 2019 turns out to be more business, EA already moved their conference out of E3s main arena a few years back.

The best thing about the last 2 E3s has been devolver digital.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

These events are expensive for companies to run and in the first place it’s not like both sony and MS need to promote their consoles any further

promoting the new games coming out wont really boost their hardware sales as well, they are not nintendo whose buyers have the mentality of “i want to play x so i’ll buy this nintendo console”

Fine for me, E3 has gone downhill since PS4 and XBOX One were announced. So much bullshit and smoke.

Exactly this, E3 has become a hype machine for devs that never deliver on promises.

I agree with both, which is why I don't think that E3s being "killed" is such a bad proposition overall. I mean it might be for the investor types but for us as consumers? Well it just means that we don't get shit pushed out of the door early to meet certain E3 announcement dates. Hell it might even kill the "bullshit trailer" syndrome even PCMR darlings like CDPR have indulged only to hit the actual release version with the fucking ugly stick by comparison.
