AMD Responds to Intel's 9th Gen Benchmarks

AMD has released slides discussing the differences between Principled Technologies 1st/2nd reports regarding the I9-9900K's performance vs AMD's 2700X. AMD has also expressed concern about the new tests done by PT.

AMD specifically references the following issues with the new test:

  • Quote

    • Unclear Multicore Enhancement (or equivalent) setting on Z390 systems
    • Suspect memory configurations (timings, transfer rates, capacity, derated OE DIMM specs)
    • Unaddressed thermal environment disparities
    • Unaddressed GPU assortment and performance deltas
    • Unaddressed sample size, collection, and selection methodologies
    • Unaddressed Z370 C-state configuration

Kind of comical that AMD decided to release a slide on how to benchmark it's CPU's, but I guess maybe its informative to someone out there.

I'm pretty sure there's no recent stories about extremely biased and poorly done benchmarks commissioned by AMD.

They had all their bad hype for Vega, and they had their multiple 570 sku issue, but I don't see any one to one comparison between the PT report and anything AMD has been doing.

And no, using Blender profiles that benefit your hardware doesn't count, since there's a big difference between playing to your products strengths and actively gimping your competition with completely unrealistic testing.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the unaddressed 200 fucking hundred bucks price difference, you know just to rub it in a bit more.

Agreed. I would have pointed that out publicly. It's like someone looking to buy a fun driving car and choosing a Corvette when the Miata is just as fun and nearly a third the price.

It's funny, in the UK you can get a Ryzen 7 2700X, Asus Strix X370 motherboard, 16gb of 3200 Team Group RAM, & a 480gb SSD for less money that you can buy the 9900k on its own...
