I was around 12 I wasn't entirely building a new computer from the scratch but I had to insert Ram stick and install windows which for me at that time was scary enough, because there was no one to tell me if that's the right way nor I had internet connection to Google it.

I think i was about 8 years old when i was playing around with  286 system.

Nothing new but i had to put it together from different broken computers.

So breaking anything wasnt really a big deal so, yay.

(My dad liked computing and i was started very early. I'm now 36 and still build computers and its still awesome)

Hope you have a great time building, just take your time. And before you know it, its fun.
Goodluck with it.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!
I'm just helping YOU to help YOURSELF!
(The more info you give the easier it is for others to help you out!)

I was a pre schooler, installing windows back then was scary af,  Win95 didnt have the flashy ui we have these days. It was this scary looking BSOD blue and you first had to delete the partitions and make a new one and so on. Nowadays formatting is a piece of cake

I was 17, I had some experience since I used to open my older pc all the time and everything went pretty good. There was one thing tha scared me though, I forgot to plug the cpu 8 pin connector and the pc stucked in a boot-loop. At first I thought that I broke something, it was an expensive build, around 1000 euros and my parents didn't want me to build it alone, because they didn't think I could do it so I had to prove them wrong.  Thankfuly, upon opening the case I saw that I had forgotten to plug the 8-pin.

I was 10 years old and it was an LGA775 system, nothing too fancy.

It went well because my older, more computer savvy friend helped me a lot at the time, he figured he would just tell me what to do and i would do it, it ended up being easy.

FFW to today, i've built more than 20 computers, for the casual clients, friends or just for myself.

As far as actually working with computer hardware (taking it apart and messing about with it) it was sometime after I started my 1st year of vocational school, but when it comes to building a PC myself it was actually 6 months ago on the 20th of February!

For years I had just been getting decent computers and dropping video cards in them with a new psu, I guess my first full custom system was a phenom 2 quad core system. (denab?)

Off the top of my head

890fxa-gd70

bfg 9600 gt  oc (moved shortly to a 6870)

Some 300GB HDD, whatever I had lying around that was decently fast. Some other drives too, but I don't remember.

2 2GB sticks of memory, gskill probably. Moved to 8.

gs600 - eventually failed

antec 300

I think the only reason I went full 'custom' on this one was I really didn't have any good computer to start with this time. Like when I got my first dual core athlon, it started with a prebuilt, which I got locally and ordered whatever parts I needed.

Next computer was a 2600, as well as a series of laptops after that.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Not off the top of my head, had to have a look at snapchat to see what the date was on that one picture I took of the box of computer parts, but I did remember it being around late-Feb. :)

Okay guys buckle up.

My father forbid me from sitting on the family PC /bad grades/ and changed the password for all accounts including mine.
> Windows XP.
> I press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
> I type admin and hit enter
>Unlock my account and proceed to play for a month without him noticing.
> Father gets home. He is all cool and impressed by my hacking skills.

"Don't do that again or next time I wont be so cool about it"

> I do it again.

He catches me again after a week or so and proceeds to FUCKING DROPKICK THE PC OFF THE TABLE. Takes the PC and places it on the table.

"DO NOT GET CLOSE TO THE PC. IF I SEE YOU APPROXIMATELY CLOSE TO THE PC I WILL DROPKICK YOU AS WELL."

> Everyone goes to bed. I take out my mining flashlight and attach it to my forehead.
I get close to the PC.

I opened it and i saw the RAM, HDD and CD tray all over the place.
I proceed to place them at their slots.

DUDE KICKED PC SO HARD RAM SLOTTED ITSELF OUT WTF?

I power up PC. PC turns on, all good.

I turn around.

FATHER.

"Okay I am so done, go to bed."

> Wake up, go to living room to check if father threw PC away.
> Father did not throw PC away.

Few weeks pass by.
Father figured out Admin loophole. Fixes it.

"What are you gonna do now little wank?"

> Night time

> Mining gear equipped and WinXP CD in hand.
> Reinstall Windows.
> Proceeds to make the exact same account configuration different passwords for each and I fix admin loophole as well.

>Morning.

Father gets on PC.
Father MAD for obvious reasons.

"Okay I fucked this up, i am going to throw it away "
"Dad, can I take this one for assembly and to play around?"
"Sure, if you manage to unlock it it is yours" - WHAT A COCKY WANK AINT HE?

> Father goes out.
> Comes back to see me moved the PC to my own room and playing games like life is all good.

"You are a terrible person son, I love you"
"Likewise, father"

Never built my own.

Would rather have a hassle free experience, plus it's like $60 for having someone assemble it for you.

It's not really a hassle, and I find going through a third party is a lot of time and communication. (I know, I've been the third party.)

If you're just clicking buy and it's a reputable place, you're paying a lot more than a  60$ premium.

Well I remember I was about 6 or 7 when I first PLAYED a game on a computer.

The first time i helped build one though was probably around the age of 10.. we're talking mid to late 90's. PC's wernt exactly the easiest things to build back then, i still remember the compatability issues that used to always arrise.

Nowaday though, i could easily see a 7 year old helping build a PC, its effectivly LEGO now.
