How old were you when you built your first PC and what was your experience like?

Indominus-Rex

I had my first upgrade experience when I was 5. (I've been using PCs for about a month by then)

Dad brought home a brand spanking new MacBook (2007 White model with a Core 2).

He leaves it on the table with a separate box holding a 2GB stick of RAM.

The battery has already been removed.

I climb up to the table and follow the instructions on how to install a new stick of RAM (Wow Apple has changed)

Done.

Works flawlessly.

2 yrs later.

Gets a hand me down netbook to play with.

Takes it apart and puts components in a cardboard box with a desk fan blowing at it.

Connects VGA port to a monitor.

First PC built.

5 yrs later.

Moves to USA.

Realizes that PCs are awesome and accessible.

Uses saved up money to build first pc from scratch.

6600K + GTX 970 have good reviews.

16 GB of DDR4 seems excessive but what if I actually need it.

Wow a 2TB hdd is only $50?

Now I have a gaming tower.

Since then I've only been more attached to the hardware side of PCs, and have built numerous builds since then, all bc my dad let me play with his Mac

Daily Driver: Asus ROG Flow X13 - 5900HS/3050 Ti

Primary Desktop: NCase M1 - 5800X3D/RX 6950XT

Travel PC: Fractal Terra - 5800X/RTX 3060 Ti

I have too many computers. List here.

18, I just slowly upgraded a thinkcenter from the LGA 775 era without knowing what I was doing

ended up with the first version being a Pentium g3260 on a biostar h81 board with 8gb of ram and a 750ti

later that turned into an i5 4460s and 32gb of ram on a Gigabyte h81 board with an r9 280x

What an awesome story lmao! Would love the hear the other one :P

> Play a video form pornhub on mother's phone when she is off.
> Video automatically downloads because it is an old Nokia touch-screen /pre-multi-touch/
> Mother takes a picture and checks gallery

> Shitload of porn

> lectured me for 10 minutes while i try to explain that in fact, due to her poor tech knowledge, she was the one guilty of downloading porn.
> Father and brother walks in back form shopping

> Mother explains what a misdeed i have done

> I explain what a misdeed mother has done

> Lil bro backs me up and goes "Mom wtf ofc it was u!" /he was 7 at the time and apparently well educated on what porn is/

> Awkward silence.

> Father goes litterally ROFL /Rolling On the Floor Laughing/
> Gets up and high-fives me and my borther

> Still laughing tries to walk away form the convo

> Mother starts bitching him "WTF U DOING???"

> Me and Lil bro walk away and proceed to play FIFA 09 on the on the PC or something, which as we know from the previous story is now located in my room 3:D

Started messing around with computers a little at 11 and built my own out of scrap parts at 14. Back when I was 14 my only computer had pretty much shit the bed so I didn't have Google to look up things, so I just looked at a old pentium ii machine to get an idea of where things went. Surprisingly it all worked out and it's very dead simple. Been building and messing with PCs very frequently ever since.

i7 2600k @ 5GHz 1.49v - EVGA GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 - 16GB DDR3 2000MHz Corsair Vengence

Asus p8z77-v lk - 480GB Samsung 870 EVO w/ W10 LTSC - 2x1TB HDD storage - 240GB SATA SSD w/ W7 - EVGA 650w 80+G G2

3x 1080p 60hz Viewsonic LCDs, 1 glorious Dell CRT running at anywhere from 60hz to 120hz

Model M w/ Soarer's adapter - Logitch g502 - Audio-Techinca M20X - Cambridge SoundWorks speakers w/ woofer

I think I built my first build at like 14. I built it with my friend who I thought knew a lot more about parts than he did but at least nothing exploded, was scary as shit though because I didn't know what was cracking and I'd spent a lot of money on parts. Now I cycle almost every 6 months in builds depending on what I can find used

That's an F in the profile pic

First full build was in 2014, age 15-16. Very fun experience, though arguably easy considering the resources the internet was able to provide. Before that, my father had given me his old work desktop because it was having issues and he was wanting to get a new one anyway. It was fun to mess around with it, and I ended up putting in a 750 Ti and having an actually pretty respectable gaming experience. I love what that card allowed to be done with the budget-friendly price and low power requirement.
