Your opinion needed on my first build... (±2500$ peripherals included)

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

So I went to the site you're ordering from, since the prices there will be a lot different than what you can find on Amazon and I'm not sure if Amazon will ship to you, and if they do, the cost.

Here's what I, personally, would do if I was in your shoes. I included the case and the other things that you originally had, as I figured those were what you wanted preference wise and honestly you should go with what you want and not what other people consider better.

I left the video card unnamed. Honestly they're all right around the same. The EVGA card is a very formidable card. The Asus tended to bench the lowest of the reviews I quickly glanced at. I put a 500 euro price in, as an average between the 4 available.

I went with an Asus board as I find they're usually really solid. Since you don't plan on over clocking, or running 2 GPU's I went with a lower end board that still has the features you'd want.

You can go to a SLI capable Asus board for another 40 euros.

I went with dual channel 16gb of RAM as I think video editing/rendering will make good use of it. That said I don't know next to nothing about that kind of thing. You can save money with a dual channel 2x4gb kit.

No need for a closed loop water cooler if you're not over clocking. Last time I checked into coolers I remember the Shuriken faring extremely well, only a couple degrees off of a Noctua. You don't really need one (unless the 4770 doesn't come with one in the box), so you can save 35 euros there.

The build came to about 1700 euros. You could save a bit going with the cheapest 780 (-15 euros), a 1tb drive (-20 euros), Samsung 120gb SSD (-70 euros).

I thought I'd suggest an IPS monitor if you're doing video work. Doesn't have to be anything fancy.

If someone suggests a mechanical keyboard and it's something you're interested in, spend the money to buy one of those little test kits. Then you'll get a sample of what each switch feels like.
Of course, going to a store and checking them out is best, not sure if you can do that in your area. Browns, blues, blacks, greens, reds. Everyone has an opinion on which one's best, but it really comes down to what YOU like.

Yeah, I am using one now, it barely ramps up and it keeps the temps at about 28 degrees at room temp.

I am using the Shadow Rock Topflow, however, I'd suggest getting a vertical one because it interfered witht the fan at the back of my case. And yes, cooler manufacturers make sure that their coolers fit in most cases on the market. That is a gigantic case, so I wouldn't worry too much about anything fitting. you could probably fit a child in that case.

(I'd recommend it from my mate's experience)

They're all the same performance-wise. The only things that you are looking out for is the extra features that you are going to use and the look (aesthetics) of the board that you are getting.

@kvermeir

1) Get rid of the CPU cooler. There is literally no reason go go for Corsair Hydro series if you don´t get either a H100i or H110. There are plenty of Air coolers that are better performing then a H80i for example :/

2) If you are certain that you will not overclock (see no reason why, but anyway) then get the non K version. Only difference is the K-version having unlocked multiplier.

3) Never opt for one module of RAM. Two modules will be faster and I have never seen the point of having upgradability to 32 GBs as you will not use it before you buy an new motherboard.

I would also personally go for 16 GBs here if you are going to edit and render a lot, but you will do fine with 8 :)

4) Speeds on SSDs are cut in half under 250 GB so try to get yourself a 250 GB one. You would also be surprised how fast they tend to fill up :(

5) Greens are designed for low power and run at 5400 RPM. Never ever get a Green is my advice. Opt for either a Barracuda from Seagate or Black/Blue from WD.

6) Got mixed feelings for RM PSUs, but I suppose it´s alright… 750 watts is none the less overkill for 1 GPU and IMO underkill for 2 so I would get either a 600 Watt or a 850 watt depending on if you would want to SLI or not.

7) There are fans included, but I would recommend changing them to something higher quality.

8) I´ve got a 144 Hz (Asus VG278HE) myself and I regret it every day. Go for something like a PA279Q and be happy the rest of your time :)

9) The keyboard is chiclet. If you don´t like chiclet (the keyboards on Macbook Airs are for example chiclet) then you should get something mechanical instead ;) No idea which though since you use AZERTY :(

10) Would have liked to make a build for you, but the clock is 2 AM with school tomorrow :/ Just follow these and the other peoples tips though and you´ll be fine :)

these are some good points. don't be afraid to OC your CPU. These are not the 90s when this was very tricky and unstable. Today OC ing is a piece of cake.  Especially on the GPU, especially on the nVidia, basically keep your system cool and it will overclock itself. I would do everything that Titanicium told you- except for one thing- I think that WD green (and it is quiet ) is fine as long as you are not going to run a lot of aps from it, for storing your media files, who cares. I would get a 2 TB because of the pricing.
