Hi

I've started randomly getting a black screen followed by a reboot with the CPU Overheat error message. This has happened in a couple of different games. However I've never seen the cpu above 91C, so I'm not convinced the cpu is actually too hot.

I've tried repasting/remounting the aio, I have aggressive fan curves set, and my cpu is undervolted (-30 all core). All fans are working, and I can feel the water tubes vibrating, so the pump is working.  Additionally I can't seem to replicate the problem myself, I ran a full system stress test (cpu and gpu at 100%) for 30 minutes and temperatures were stable with the cpu hovering right at 90.  The PC is 2ish years old and this is a new problem.

Specs:

Windows 10

5800X3d

Asus Tuff B550

240mm thermaltake aio

6800xt

32 gb ram

750w Super Flower Leadex 80+ gold

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this.  I feel like it's not actually a cpu overheat error since I've never seen temps go over 91C, but maybe it's somehow randomly spiking?

Thanks!

check if there are a difference on in and out tubes on the AIO.

some AIO's have a tendency to fail after a few years, due to sludge buildup behind the cold plate or pump failing.

you might have to disassemble the coldplate on the cooling head but keep it higher than your radiator to avoid too much leakage. there are several video's on this on youtube so search for them.

It seems like the AIO is working, I can feel water moving through both tubes.  And both tubes are warm, although the line coming from the cpu to the rad is obviously a little warmer.

I did also try cleaning the radiator, it had some dust in it but not a crazy amount.  That did help my temperatures by a degree or two and I haven't had a crash yet since cleaning it, but they also aren't super common so it's hard to say if that fixed it or not.  I'll have to use it for a few days to see.

a warm radiator would be 35-45C very warm is 50+.. if you don't feel it get's that warm but still overheats.. i would carefully dismantled the cold plate at the head and checked it for gunk.. if it's there i would replace it.

if your CPU are 91C.. your aio should be closer to 50C on a tube if it's transporting fast enough.
