Eh I'd strip it for the parts I wanted and sell the rest for next to nothing or give them away to friends. You can't decide what other people decide to do with their property or claim to know their motivations in doing so.

Not in Canada you don't. If you win something here, you win it. You don't have to pay tax on the item/prize.

 

You don't even pay tax on Lotto winnings.

There was nothing saying it couldn't be done, and frankly, if someone buys it, they're likely to be an LTT fan, because no one's going to pay more than retail for a used item.

Haha, if I'd won it I'd sell it. Might have stripped out the GPU and CPU and replaced them with lower end stuff though.

You don't need to be swimming in money for a PC of that caliber, it's not even that great

its not an ad been following ltt for years, taught me how to build my first pc, im just not really into the forums,although i have solved pc issues using theses forums, big fan of the community, i just wanted to see what other people thought, not saying he doesnt have the right to sell it, was just stating my opinion while asking what everyone else thought

The very dream of a build like that is almost outrageous to plenty of people (myself included). Buying a 1070ti is a gross misallocation of the resources I have available to me, not to mention the CPU in that thing.

 

That being said, I probably wouldn't sell the computer unless there was absolutely no other options, because something like a signed computer build from the LTT team is... well, quite frankly something that would be worth thousands more to me in sentimental value.

 

Another funny thing... I don't buy SSDs because they aren't 'necessary' for any build. They're nice, but that 60 dollars is much more useful going towards, say, another 8gb ram stick.

 

I'm not trying to be inflammatory (quite the opposite) - but I did totally make an account just to say that a bit of perspective can be important in this kind of scenario. The guy that won could totally be the kind of guy who enters in sweepstakes because he wants - or maybe even needs - to put a little bit of extra cash under his belt.

 

1,400 dollars isn't something to scoff at - all I'm saying.

Strongly disagree here. If you, for example, already have 8GB in your build, upping that to 16GB vs buying an SSD boot drive is, in my opinion, extremely foolish. You will get much more massive returns in your user experience by having 8GB + a boot SSD vs 16GB of RAM no SSD.

 

I would not ever go back to HDD only systems, even if I were building a entry level build.

 

It's not even the boot times - it's literally everything else. An SSD will increase response time for every little action you do on a PC. Each action might be very small, but it adds up to an experience that is not comparable to running off of a HDD.

agree entirely, in years gone by RAM was always talked about as the easiest and cheapest upgrade, that hasn't been the case for a long time especially past 16gb, even 8gb is perfectly fine for general computer use and gaming and with RAM prices as they are it is much more expensive anyway. I was a very recent convert to SSD for a boot drive and a few games and I will never be going back to a HDD for anything other than mass storage. Loading screens in certain games I play really was  destroying the experience, WoW in particular, i could portal to Dalaran and go and make a sandwich and cup of tea and still be back before the loading screen finished, I literally took boats to certain areas and the screen was so long the boat had already made the return journey.

 

simply put, even just spending £50-100 on a cheap SSD or even slightly more on a larger and faster drive will give you more benefit in most use cases than  going from 8 to 16gb of ram for anything other than video editing.

That's a valid point, and I wrote that comment... at a time that I was very tired.

 

Dumb thing is, I do have an SSD, but my desktop is currently all sorts of borked, I'm not sure what's wrong with it, and I don't have the money to be buying/RMAing various components to figure out exactly what the issues are. So I have an SSD, but it's not in use right now.

 

Said SSD was also gifted to me by a friend who was upgrading from a 120g to a 500g ssd.

 

SSDs were a weird thing to get hung up on, but I still think it's important to mention that no, a 1070ti should not be considered 'not that great' - there are a huge number of people that would never buy a 1070ti in their current financial position, and some of the wealthier pcmr, pc builder type people kind of forget that.

 

There are a number of 'hobbyist/enthusiast' types who get into PC building purely for the money they save by building their own computers; I was one such person, and while I'm now quite engrossed in the greater technological world, I'm still pinching pennies on PC components (and haven't been able to repair my desktop for four months or so).

 

Kind of a pet peeve of mine, is all.

I mean affordability, sure. It's a little expensive. But the phrase "swimming in money" generally means one is pretty wealthy. I've build computers better than that when making minimum wage. Haha, I can't imagine running HDD based storage. *shudder*

I wouldn't try to contest the idea that a $1,400 machine is incredibly expensive, because I know it isn't. But neither I nor anyone in my family is in a position to really spend money frivolously (my back is getting to a near-QoL-threatening state, my mom might have breast cancer, my dad's back is worse than mine is, and my older brother is a freshman in college), which is kind of the point I was making. There's a lot of PCMR-esque people who have crazy builds and kind of... look down? on people who can't afford to run dual 780Ti builds with 24 gigs of ram, consistently upgrade GPU/CPU/etc yearly, so on and so forth... cough cough /r/pcmr cough cough and I've been seeing it more and more recently, and your post (for whatever reason) irked me.

Also, I kind of lied. I do have an SSD, but my actual machine is broken so I've been using a Toshiba Satellite p55t b5156 that I got out of a junk pile and fixed up a bit. No SSD there. The SSD in my main machine is a 120gb that my friend gifted to me when he upgraded to a 500gb.

 

So, in summary: I apologize for being snippy. The envy in me couldn't help but get angry because I can't fix my machine, and other people have shit that I want.

He may need the money, and even if he does not he can still do whatever he wants (even though i personally find more valuable the pc than the money, but its just a personal thing)

I was browsing on craigslist and saw that too! (I live in that region) Although he did lower the price some. It was 2k at the time I had seen it. I hadn't seen it before so he has had it for quite some time I think, so I'm pretty sure he didn't have the intention of selling it. It is kind of ashame but oh well can't do anything about it.
