My old power supply turned into a 5g and 2.4g Wifi inhibitor...no seriously

Douglas Oak

So after 4 visits from Shaw including a tech supervisor it was determined that my old desktop now inhibits all wifi within 10 to 20 meters. Further testing revealed it to be the power supply.

I am replacing the power supply but I am wondering what I should do with my wifi inhibitor...lol

can you explain more in your post. what psu is it? anything inherently wrong with it? what happens to your wifi when you turn it on - just interference?

Piss off the hypebeasts at your local shoe store. They'll love it when they can't post pictures of their new Supreme hat that they just got for $1500 on their $1000 iPhone X. If you live in Vancouver, CF Richmond Centre please, that's where the hypebeasts and thots in my school go

Would probably be a fine way of getting the FCC knocking on your door. Be sure to leave a good first impression in greeting them with coffee. ;)

Get in touch with LMG and make a new haunted Hardware video. I'd love to see a video like this.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

It’s against the law for it to be doing that. What manufacturer and model number?

no it's not, as it was never designed to do that in the first place and is clearly malfunctioning somehow. If it was supposed to block wifi or phone signals then it may be breaking telecoms laws depending entirely on where the person lives.

A modern power supply is a switching power supply and a circuit that switches back and forth to change the level of AC input. This is used instead of a heavy power transformer. The switching circuit generates electrical (electronic) noise which is EMI. The designers of the power supply are required to mitigate the switching noise by both design and shielding.

EMI is notorious for interfering with WiFi signals.

@Douglas Oak can you give the manufacturer and the series of the PSU?

My phone's hotspot makes a high-pitched whining sound on my microphone whenever they're within 2 feet of each other, which never happened with my old phone. Weird stuff.

I would love to know what PSU this is.  Sounds like it completely lacks EMI filtering of any kind.
