Rumour: iPhone X 2.0 Will Be One Of The Largest Smartphones Ever

Source: Kotaku Australia: https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/06/iphone-x-2-plus-largest-smartphones-ever-report

Quote

According to the latest hardware leaks, Apple will be launching three new phones in 2018 - including a followup to its polarising flagship, the notch-equipped iPhone X. Here are five things you need to know about the upcoming phone, based on the latest credible leaks and rumours, including images of a 6.5-inch screen.

1. Biggest iPhone screen ever?

Apple is rumoured to be working on an 'iPhone X Plus' model which will purportedly include a gargantuan 6.5-inch screen. If true, it's likely that Apple will release two iPhone X models with the other sporting similar dimensions to the 2017 version. (More on which below.)

There are other, conflicting reports of a 6.1-inch screen. This would still make it larger than Android's premiere flagship, the Pixel 2 XL. You can see a leaked image of the alleged iPhone X2 screen over on the MacX forum.

2. Three iPhone X models?

According to a report in Taiwan's Economic Daily News, we could be getting not one, not two, but three new iPhone X models in 2018. If true, this would probably mean that the iPhone 9 won't be appearing. In addition to the aforementioned iPhone X2 and iPhone X2 Plus, there would also be a cheaper version with an LCD display dubbed the iPhone X SE. (Personally, we doubt Apple would besmirch its deluxe iPhone X branding with a cheaper-cost model, but stranger things have happened.)

Regardless of what the new phones are called, it seems likely that Apple will be moving away from the 'classic' iPhone design in favour of Home-free displays like the iPhone X.

3. iPhone X2 release date and specs

All has been quiet on the insider intelligence front when it comes to the new iPhone X's launch date. However, it's possible to deduce a rough time frame based on past iPhone releases - so expect a tentative US Autumn release (September-November). This is backed by a a leaked Kuo research note which points towards three new iPhone models - which will presumably include iPhone X's successor - in late 2018.

So what about specifications? If a Bloomberg report can be believed, the iPhone X2 (or whatever it ends up being called) will come with a new A12 processor supplied by TSMC. This is a 7-nanometer chip that is said to be smaller, faster and more efficient than Apple's current CPUs.

You can also expect some (potentially major) improvements to the camera. Credible rumours include a 3x optical zoom and an extra lens to put in line with the Huawei P20 Pro's trio of rear-facing cameras.

4. Improved notch

The controversial display notch looks to be returning on the iPhone X2. The aforementioned display leak on MacX has a rectangular cutout that can only mean one thing. However, there are also reports that the notch will be smaller this time around which should make it less obtrusive in immersive/full screen mode.

5. Squeezable chassis?

According to a patent filing spotted by IBT, Apple is experimenting with 'squeezable' controls, similar to those found in flagship Android devices. However, it appears Apple's version will be more versatile with different functions enabled depending on the amount of pressure you apply.

There's no confirmation that the iPhone X2 will come with squeeze detection, but with the Pixel 2 and various HTC handsets already boasting similar technology, it would make sense for Apple to jump on this fast.

Personally I like the idea of a larger iPhone X, since it's currently the same physical size (or close to) the iPhone 6/6S/7/8 and I find those too small for my stupidly large hands but the Plus models are awesome. These rumoured
additions/fixes sound promising. If true I might upgrade to one from my 6S Plus, though it's still as snappy as when it launched, so yeah..

Now we just need Touch ID under the glass, unlikely since they seem to be focused on Face ID, but I can dream.

Not going to lie, I would take a 6.5in iPhone X that's twice as thick as current if it had a battery that lasted 1-2 days of heavy use.

For sure. But in the mainstream? I know there's phones like the Note 8 & One Plus 5T which are above 6 inches, but it seems harder to find something from a mainstream brand that is that 6.5 inch size. I'm sure a lot of those cheaper lesser known brands from China are pushing phones with displays like that though.

Apple has a patent for an under the display Touch ID but they can't make it work as fast and as accurate as the existing Touch ID in iPhone 6s to 8.

But will it feature a 5,300mAh battery like my 6.5in android phone (which I might add, doesn't have a notch, does have a 3.5mm jack, microSD slot, and also costs less than 1/4 of an original iphone X)

What you are missing, and what is wrong:

  • You need to explain the news in your own words
  • Plagiarism is not allowed. Quoting the whole article or near that is considered plagiarism. Quotes are there to support what you are saying or to complete what you are saying.

wish they made a new version of this. Keep it as a low end if they want, just give me the huge screen, the almost bazeless design of the A-line, huge removable battery and the joy of samsun's unlocked bootloader and modding aese

quick question: would quoting/spoilerboxing close to everything be allowed if the source is known to paywall after a while? o_o

Good question.

That would be considered a form a piracy. Quotes of small sections is considered fine in general.

This is because you are exposing material which the author(s) decided that you need to pay to have access to, even if the site has a free trial period.
