What advice would you give to someone younger than you?

I, I don't feel so good. . .

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Do what you want
Screw other people
Live the life you want, etc.

But I cant really talk, it's not like I'm particularly mature.

If you're doing eBay, it's not economically viable. I have experience from buying Peanuts tapes!

Although, people will pay out the ass for rare premier SpongeBob airings from 2001 or a tape full of shit from pre-2015 Boomerang. Don't ask, I know enough about tape trading to know how it goes.

It might be over stated, but be try and be happy with less, you can drive a car that cost 1-2 months salary or get a new car, because "NEW" and pay 1-2 years salary only for it to no longer be "NEW" in two years when something newer comes along.

@Dan Castellaneta Why not? I love VHS tapes and own hundreds of them. The only thing that sucks is how much space they take up. I sell dozens of them on eBay. Sure they take forever to sell but if you list a couple hundred at a time(individually, one at a time), you'll get bites. Usually when people either get their taxes back or when they have extra money to spend. The key is to make sure you do your research on the actual value of each individual VHS. A good 80% of VHS tapes have no value over $5. Never try to sell those.

Most VHS tapes are barely worth more than $2. Remember the whole Black Diamond thing that happened with the Disney tapes when people were charging $5000 for what was maybe a $5 tape?

I usually wouldn't pay more than $5 for a singular tape (again, I actually do collect tapes) unless it were something genuinely rare, or a demo tape I'd really want.

In all fairness, though, a number of people capture the tape previews, myself included, and people like watching them, so there's that.

  • Go to school, whether it be for a trade or something else.
  • Don't go to school for a field that's already saturated.
  • Learn Mandarin.
  • Be yourself. You can't keep up fronts forever, and lies you tell will come back to bite you in the ass.
  • Maintain friendships. They require work, they do not maintain themselves.
  • Work out. Your body enjoys it, as does your mind.

That makes no sense. How can *not* overspending on useless/overpriced crap make you end up unable to pay the vet bill ?

More likely it's the reverse: The guy driving the Tesla, wearing the suit and Rolex, is the one ending up with the dead cat.

Also, how do you go from not overspending on useless/overpriced crap to "teared clothes full of ice cream?". When your old clothes are torn and unclean-ably stained you buy new ones, the point is those don't have to be Givenchy, there's plenty of sensibly priced, decent stuff out there.

Perhaps you're still young yourself?

Think about what you've just said: If you feel sad about something, hopefully something profound - because if you're going to be sad for every little thing that does not go your way life's going to be tough - then sitting in your overpriced metal bucket made by company X makes you feel way better then you would in a sensibly priced metal bucket by company Y.

The wisdom on how silly that is comes with age (for some), that's why this is advice for the young.

(And, off course, the irony is that by not overspending but saving and investing when you're young, thereby leveraging your time horizon in your favor, in the end you'll be the one being able to afford the Tesla, suit and Rolex with your passive income while the other guy's stuff is being taken by the bank for not being able to make the monthly payments. )

Oh, don't forget. Wear a condom when having sex especially if you have many partners. It is fun and games until you get STDs

Also never ever get married or have kids if you are a man because he rigged family courts will likely screw you over.  I didn´t fall for the trap but many friends did.

Bad advice for those in the US. Construction jobs are plentiful and hard work is well compensated.

Whereas most subjects lead to oversaturated markets, and the few that don't will only select the best of the best.

If you want to be well paid, most jobs (plumbing, electrical, framing, etc) all require schooling. So no, it's not.

Framing doesn't require schooling, at all.

There are trade schools for electrical and plumbing, but one can become a licensed plumber with nothing but apprenticeship.

You get paid a lot better if you hold a ticket. Framing doesn't require schooling down there? Odd.

Not here. The best paid electricians and plumbers are the ones that learned everything in the field.

Nope, by the time you get out of school, half of the knowledge could be outdated and be code illegal.

Plus, my high school district started framing classes during my senior year. Not only what they taught was wrong, being at least 15 years out of date, but it was exclusively conventional classroom learning. While that'll work for math and science, I've spent the last 6 years of my career teaching new guys, and it does not work for framing.
