Smartphone Wishlist

After seeing a recent post about someone getting a new phone, the standard "they're all the same" comment happened. This got me thinking, there aren't a lot of features that don't hit par these days. So I'm curious from everyone on the forum what features still stand out to you and make you want a phone. Or even what is your list of basic requirements? Maybe this can even be a video @LinusTech. And lets keep this not about apple or android, just features.

My list of requirements:

Type C

32-64 Gb

Flat Screen (rounded edges cost too much to replace if they get broken, and as I found with my s8, the round edges scratch too easily

Able to find someone who makes a custom photo wallet case for

 

My wants:

Expandable storage

Dual Speakers

Ive just had the Samsung A8 to replace my aging Samsung S6 and so far so good.  This is my 4th day having it and so far im happy.

Proper minimum 3000mah battery 4000 would be even better

Front facing speakers

NFC (its amazing how many phones STILL don't have it -_-)

Fingerprint scanner on the back

Waterproof

My list of requirements would be ,  expandable storage option upto 128Gb , not a fan of speakers on phone so i'd prefer it being single but loud enough , as much screen area as possible facing the user rounded or corned or flat as much real estate they can take to display is better, oled, water resistance , NFC , ~4000 mah battery

Supported software updates for at least three years, security updates for at least 4 years, wireless charging, type C, and specs that should keep the phone fast for at least four or five years. Along with that is a user replaceable battery with good battery life, NFC, fingerprint scanner, and water resistant (probably can't have waterproof with a replaceable battery).

I want my note 4, but with newer features.  replacable battery, flip case, micro sd slot.  decent camera would be nice

Samsung is trying to make a new battery... 5x more than a normal Li-ion. Already have protos. Think about a 10k-mAh Note 10

I'm curious, it says you have 6s plus. Have you seen any bending with your model?

6s and forward did not bend. The 6 really didn't bend either if you had any level of respect for a $600+ device.

I tend to have more respect for my $200 china-phone that most people I see with their $600+ devices. Aka, normal people abuse their stuff to some degree. ?

4. At least IP67 rating

5. USB C fast chargiing

6. SD 845/ Possible Kirin 980

7. Fast updates, don't mind if their not Pixel-fast though

8. 64+ gb UFS  2.1 (3.0?) or NAND storage

9. A great camera with good software to accompany it

10. AMOLD or an amazing IPS screen (micro led would be great also)

11. 6 gb ram

12. No notch

13. A fast FS in the back

14. USB OTG support

15. Great support with ROMs and whatnot

 

I am very picky lol  I don't believe such a device will ever exist

1)  3.5mm headphone jack

2)  IP67 or above

3)  3000mah or more battery

4)  64GB or more of storage

 

The rest is just gravy

Really, in general, this could be the full list:

- Great screen (decent size, maybe 5.8”-6”, either IPS or AMOLED, 1440p of 16:9 or 18:9)

- 4000mAh++ battery with interchangability

- Quick charge

- NFC (of course, it is also a phone, and in case you need to transfer some pictures or pay when you forget your wallet)

- Water resistance (it’s 2018!!!)

- Headphone jack (why is this gone?)

- 64/128/256GB storage options + expandable storage

- Fast updates (if Pixel like then that manufacturer is godsent)

- No notches (it’s stupid af)

- 6GB+ of RAM

- Dual speakers w/ a DAC

- USB Type-C charging port

- Backsided fingerprint scanner

I'd argue that if I get a 4000+ mAh battery, i really don't need interchangability, but that's just me

Are there many that DON'T use quick charge at this point?

Personally I think for 99.9999% of people 128GB is overkill, so i don't see much need for a 256

I accept no phone without type C at this point, I made that switch with my last phone and I don't regret it one bit

I honestly don't use the fingerprint scanner, but I think it should be on any phone
