Can't reach consistent 165fps in LoL and other games with gtx 1080 /ryzen 1600

Karanick

I'm lost. I've been having problems with frame drops and low fps in League(and other games)  for ages and i cant get a solution.

my specs are : Ryzen 1600 (Oc'd 3.8Ghz) , Gtx 1080 , Trident Z rbg 3200mhz (running at 2933) , 144hz (OC'd to 165hz) 1440p G-sync monitor , games running on SSD.

The game starts at 160-150 fps then drops to 100 during lane phase. During intense teamfights it gets to 60-50.  Same exact thing happens to PUBG.

So far I've done :

  1. Lowest possible graphic settings (same exact fps)
  2. Turn Off V-sync on nvidia panel
  3. Power settings to maximum perfomance on Nvidia Panel
  4. Ryzen Balanced mode and High performance (tested both nothing happenned)
  5. Oc'd my CPU and RAM
  6. Latest drivers on everything
  7. Turned SMT off in BIOS
  8. Turned Ryzen Quiet setting off

Specifically in League, the one thing that's weird  is that my Gpu has a very low usage % (<30%).  From what I'm seeing people with the same or inferior Systems are getting way more stable fps numbers. Is something bottenecking me ?

I think I should have a way better performance than the one I'm having now.

The R5 1600 isn't really a great choice for high refresh rate gaming. That kind of drops don't seem right though. What's CPU usage like? Temps?

Yeah League is kinda shit when it comes to optimization on the high end. It will run at 60FPS on basically anything, but it seems no one can get a stable 100fps+ in this game. I think really fast single core performance is all League really seems to care about, it's obviously not GPU bound, and it makes sense as they have pushed to make the game as playable  as possible on machines without a dedicated GPU. If you just want to play League I'd suggest trying to get your OC to like, 4GHz and maybe even disable some cores.

Your issue is the "weak" single thread potential of the Ryzen processor, as stated above Ryzen is not the desired solution for high refresh rate (144hz - 165hz - 240hz) if you want to play games with that much fps you need an Intel Coffee Lake CPU.

Other things you can try are increasing Pagefile to help out with a possible memory leak, DDU in safe mode and reinstall the display drivers fresh new.

^^^^^^^^

League is designed to run on toasters (literally, I could fucking stick my displayport into the slot of a toaster and league would turn on) and is only optimized for around 100ish FPS. Even with my 4790K and 970, I dont hit more than 140fps most times.

Back in the day before all the optimizations for toasters, yeah I could hit 300FPS but it never mattered.
