TUF, Strix, Pro and Crosshair guess Asus are going fully committed to x470.

 

The only noticeable additions from 370 are USB-C header and 2nd M.2 slot beside the chipset though.

 

interesting that they're uisng Asm 1142 chip compared to 1143 on the x370 boards, if you think this means anything.

So far these are the only leaked boards. Pro isn't part of their ROG, just their mainstream Prime line up.  Asmedia 1143 don't seem to exist on their site, only the 1142.

But seriously, if the ryzen2 performs well enough and turns out to be cheaper than the Intel counterparts then my next build is shaping up to be a very deep shade of red.

With USB 2.0 headers required for most AIO, and any 3rd party lighting, like Corsair Node, I do wish these boards would come with additional or at least a splitter.

Also.. That IO cover... Is that going to interfere with air coolers?

AMD generally has really been less shit when it comes to things being locked down (still remember the days of unlocked multipliers for K6 - K-3+, when Intel was locking all of their Pentium II/III and Celeron down).

I might have to interject here, each die has 32 PCIe lanes in total so at least for x370 (all AM4 actually) they were capping PCIe lanes (20 + 4 chipset != 32). That's why TR was 64 lanes and EPYC has 128.

it might have been a good idea for them to remove that limit, as z390 might have more pcie lanes, don't know if am4 has enough pins though, maybe it will come with zen 2, who knows

The extra M.2 slot leads me to think they have increased it which would be nice.

I haven't seen any indication that they're gonna go past the 24 lanes they have now which is also why the rumor about the chipset being gen 3 is probably wrong. I mean the x4 gen 3 lanes that go to the chipset will be split into x8 gen 2 lanes like they do on 300 series boards.

Unless they unlock the extra lanes (why are they locked to begin with?) and either give an extra x4 from CPU to m.2 (they already have such a dedicated line so that would mean two dedicated m.2 slots from CPU) or they give full x8 gen 3 to the chipset which would allow x8 gen 3 or x16 gen 2 - which could allow a full gen 3 x4 bandwidth slot from chipset.

 

But still, all the leaks so far say that X470 is just a die shrink and optimization of X370 with stricter requirements for board components. I hope to be surprised though.

Could be, the x370 Asus Crosshair VI Extreme actually has 2 M.2 slots and for that board.

It might not be artificial though. I sincerely doubt AMD would restrict 8 lanes when it'd just give further advantage against Intel.
