ASRock to enter Graphics Card Market

ASRock is presumably going to enter the graphics card market and will focus on AMD cards.

BUT! here's the catch: Before getting your hopes up for nice and affordable AMD cards I gotta tell you this: 

In an article two days ago German Tom's writes that ASRock will presumably specialize on MXM format cards only, if they are to enter the gpu market. Of course, these are all rumours and such, but Tom's bases these claims on their industry contacts.

And yea that's it for now, I guess. I would love to see another supplier for consumer cards, and maybe once ASRock get their foot in the door they will start making those as well?

Sounds pretty good, Asrock is one of those general midrange options, it would be good to see more cards in the realm of EVGA and Gigabyte.

Only MXM cards seems kinda weird, theres already a few companies who dominate that segment, i think they would be best off doing desktop cards. I also wonder if they'll be doing any weird stuff like powercolor (cough four eight pins cough) or keeping it basic. Some blue designs would be nice to see with GPU's instead of all the black + trim we have right now.

This is still nice to see and hopefully it's not just rumors or doesn't stay with MXM cards.

I love ASRock, they usually offer so much more for the price than the competing products, and don't falter on quality.

Yah, I just did a general search for ASRock and found nothing about it anywhere recent on the forums at all. Must have just seen a news article about it while browsing LTT *shrug*

We can finally have a nice blue/white GPU that doesn't look like sh#t? 

 

The brushed/anodized metal looks splendid in nearly any build. It also doesn't seem to attract as much dust as plastic shrouds do.

im thinking the OC Formula colors rather  i would pay quite a premium for an OC Formula card tbh(still need to get an OC Formula board too tho )

Asrock is incredibly hit or miss. But you can’t mess a budget GPU up too hard

Knowing AsRock cheap ass build quality = incoming cheap board GPU's with 300W TDP, sparks flying all over the place.

Anyway im surprised they have not entered the market sooner, their biggest competitors are in the GPU Aftermarket segment, MSI,Gigabyte, Asus.

Is there some kind of benefit to using MXM over PCIe that I'm unaware of..?

The cards would be MXM format only so you would need an adapter to use them in standard desktop PCs.

MXM tends to be much smaller which would be great for SFF.

No. just seems like something that should be available for those who have MXM cards and want to use them. 

Like say your gaming laptop died in some other way just outside of warranty... id still like to use the good hardware inside.

MXM is just a form factor, like M.2

 

And for standard desktops, there is no good reason to use an MXM card.

 

However, SFF, they take up less space.
