I didn't see a "low point for the amount of work", but more "underutilization". For me they've been using only about 50% of the GPU, and hence half the points... more like poor optimization it seems.

How are you looking at utilisation, I see under CUDA 90~% usage

I was looking at power draw. Only got a couple of those WUs and didn't do detailed stats anyway but when I looked at power draw my 2080S was drawing about 150W instead of 250 for a WU that really uses it fully.

I believe the usage indicator kinda says "how much of a given unit of time the GPU is busy", but not how much of the circuitry is actually being exercised. Kinda like you can get 100% CPU use with cinebench, but if you throw Prime95 at it you still get 100% yet it gets a lot more work done and power usage rises accordingly as more circuitry is actually doing work.

Just a fun observation on p13415: it performs about as well on my vega 64 as my r9 290 in terms of credit at 9k, with a TPF difference of 20-30s. Power draw on the vega is 60-80w where it is usually limited to 155w on non-moonshot WUs.

yeah well i was surprised to see you that close in my review mirror luckily my 3900x hade ~600K PPD and the 1700 had ~250-300k PPD to help me accelerate ahead or i would have been clawed to death...

It was a bit of a perfect storm.  My first 2 days, 1 rig started failing WU's left and right (my 24/7 rig), the one that has gone non stop in beta/advanced queue since I started folding, all of a sudden just started failing all the time.  Then my main rig was literally just doing covid moonshot WU's the first 2 days until I moved it from beta to advanced queue.   My PPD was in the toilet and by then end I ramped back up to my normal PPD.

 

I started so far behind I could never catch up

I keep toying with the idea of a top of the line full sim rig once the new cards and CPUs hit.  My main problem is justifying how infrequently I'd get to use it with everything else in my life.

Cost...cost...cost...All has to do with the price points. Lower the price point the higher the performance the more I will upgrade. If anything I will probably at least add a big Navi to the fray and retire My 580 And maybe just maybe Add a 3060.

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.
 

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for this thread and the people within it.  Over the course of this pandemic, I have consistently used these threads as a means of catharsis - reading about the mad rush(es) to assimilate hardware (and the electricity bills that come with that), overloading the FAH collection servers until they were super-saturated with WUs, and working together to get each other's clients working.  These daily updates have gone a long way in keeping me sane (hopefully?).

 

I will also echo a number of people and send a boatload of gratitude to @GOTSpectrum.  Thank you for hosting all of the folding events that you have done, as I certainly couldn't juggle everything all at once.

 

In the end, though, words are nice, but actions are nicer.  While I only currently have a R7 3700X to offer (I'm currently running Ubuntu 19.10, for gaming reasons, and I haven't heard good reports about 20.04 and RX5700s), I thought I would further show my thanks by joining team 223518.

I intend to be more active in the future, particularly in regards to Folding and Linux.  I'm hoping I can get my card up and running and actually get some GPU WUs in my scoreboard.

Just a quick question? Are there WU's that can only be done on CPU's? I've been using my CPU to fold (R5 3600x), but its probably less than 10% of my overall points compaired to my RTX 2060 which seems to do the bulk of my work. If all units can be done on GPU's I'll probably just disable folding on my CPU.

Yes, CPU WUs can not be ran on GPUs

The guy failed to indicate then crossed my lane, so had practically no time to react. By the time I realised he was turning I was already in the junction and he hit me side on. Luckily it was only 5mph or so, but still how the hell did the guy not see me while driving towards me on the same road. I mean I was wearing a bright blue cycling jersey!!! Pretty hard to miss imo.
