You could look at 960's with the 3.0
Comfy car with basically a decent version of a 2J under the hood.

You only get 180 horse in the manual one though.

What's the difference between a 960 and 940/945. And why's the auto get more?

960 is the luxury spec. They changed the model name to S90 and V90 in 1997 too so technically you could own a V90
The engines are both volvo white block N/A models. They're basically identical in the manual and auto but the manual boys get less power. as they should

What the hell is the point of performance on an automatic gearbox? Usually it's the other way around because automatic gearboxes shift up pathetically early and don't use the available power at all.

Because the autos generally were the "premium" option

Yeah golf or octavia VRS are ones I've been checking out. VRS would cost me a grand monthly in insurance. 

C70 was 3000kr/month (no that's not a typo).

The price difference between a VRS and non-vrs is very small, and the VRS is generally far nicer both inside and out. 

Leons look like a Fiat multipla that melted in the sun imo.
