Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

the VW 1.9 TDi is quite a nice little engine ... had so many fucking versions as well xD

They had to make that many versions. Sadly. Some where perceived pretty unreliable but I really think that a lot of that had to do with the ignorant driving style of all those lease-yuppies. Full throttle with a cold engine is never a bright idea.

V8 sounds vary a lot though. Different designs sound wildly different.

I love flat-plane crank noises though :)

if i ever had to chose a V8 to listen to ... it would .... uhh.... fuck it ... im european i cant afford to feed the V8s with these fuel prices xD

My dad currently owns a Peugeot with a 1.6 urea cleansed turbodiesel. Thing has only 120HP but 300Nm of torque (around 230-ish pound feet). It's the 308 hatchback so it is pretty lightweight for a modern car. When that turbo kicks in it packs a nice gentle punch. Makes me wish the effective torquerange was more gasoline like. Fun begins at about 1800 RPM but ends at a mere 3700. After that torque decreases far to much :(

well, as long as you maintain them properly the VW and Audi diesels are hard to destroy

O yes definitely! Maintenance and not beating it to death when the engine and it's fluids are still cold are THE keys to preserve your engines health.

I also heard stories about people having to revise their turbo after 60K kilometers/40K miles because they mistreated it in every way possible without knowing they where causing it themselves. Full throttle and high revs with cold engine and then turn of the engine while the turbo is still glowing hot causing the oil in the turbo to overheat because it wasn't pumped around anymore.

And ofc. blaming the manufacturer for it :P

I love most of Mercedes's engines. But the new biturbo ones sound amazing in real life.

On an unrelated note.

I love how Hot Rod Garage has been on so long that Lucky and Tony have turned into a pair of goofballs that just do whatever they like xD

Gah damn, forgot about that model, and the owner boosted it to over 300hp wow. But i'm also curious about the owner's 9-5 aero that is also highly modified. seems like he's got such the interesting collection.

Well .. i for one do not like how most of merc V8s sound . I dont know is it noise or pollution regulations but if i have like a 500HP engine i expect it to roar and be heard ..

Plenty of rich people here have AMGs and what not , they just sound out of place .
