Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

So first VW got caught for cheating on diesel emissions, then FCA, now GM.

Next the EPA will figure out Ford is cheating, and still not realize maybe their standards are unreachable without killing growth and innovation.

This is simply not true.

DC electric motors have a falling torque curve. The torque they produce is inversely proportional to the speed of the motor. So the faster the motor is spinning, the less torque they make and maximum torque is made at 0 RPM.

Here's a generic DC motor torque curve:

torquepowerspeed.jpg

And an article on the curves of DC motors if you want to learn a bit more:

http://lancet.mit.edu/motors/motors3.html

So basically attach a D.C. Motor to as high of gearing as you possibly can for the best result so it's always spinning at a very low rpm

or would you want it to spin where the torque and horsepower curve crosses each other? Where's the most ideal horsepower/torque balance "spot"???

Actually, the wheel diameter in a hub motor is gearing. But add in a transmission and you start losing due to friction and more moving parts.

All the torque is at the very start, 0RPM for electric..... gassers are not like that, not at all. You need a certain RPM to get the highest torque.

The way I heard it was electric motors make all their torque from slipping.

What is that supposed to mean lol

Yes and that picture is that. Though my wheel statement has to due with hub motors, which is a niche market for automobiles because they need to be light weight.

I like the Warp motors myself, but any forklift motor is a fine candidate for a conversion.

I'm confused as to what you're attempting to say in relation to both of these posts. I'm talking about these electric motors.

The 9th gen Chevy Malibu does look very nice.

I'm certainly interested to see what GM does with bringing the square body into the late 2010s. I wonder if it's going to be like a simple copy + paste or if maybe they're going to modernize it a little nods of the old style with modern styling.

You'd create drivetrain loss and a whole lotta heat with the gears.

I think its the tire pressure but that loose bumper may be adding some drag.

Buddy of mine had one. Really nice cars. The seats are fantastic. That car and his current Park Avenue inspired me to try out American cars.

Still want something sportier though. so roadmaster is a no-go.

It really depends on what your use is. In a general sense you want to set the motor up so that you're around max power output at the highest RPM you want to spin, past that point, it's all down hill from there.
