Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Does it have VVT?

Can confirm, VVT does *strange* things. When you pass 3k rpm in the Miata, even if you don't move your foot, the car has a sudden surge in torque and it pulls forward.

the Corolla had VVT as well but I don't recall it doing anything like this. But it could of been "muffled" by the auto transmission too

man, i kinda want to do this, but i already installed a brand new one, so it's kinda pointless. https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?72107-Protege-929-Master-Cylinder-Brake-Upgrade plus my car doesn't have abs, so idk if it will work with a non abs car.

Lower guide completely gone. Upper one partially gone. Somehow the balance shaft skipped teeth but the motor stayed in time. So I gotta time all that shit when there isn't timing marks on anything. Pretty sure my initial timing was 180 out on the cams but VW puts the tensioner for the upper chain in the timing cover. I tried to hold the guide and turn the engine by hand but it was binding up like the valves were hitting which didn't happen with the tensioner on. So now I'm in a whole world of shit without much information on these things. Pretty sure the keyways on the cams face 12oclock, and the balance shaft mark points 10oclock while the crank has a decent mark to go off of.

@vetali ordering a new 1/2" ratchet today. Choices are a 10 3/4" handle and a 15" handle. Which should I get? This is what I'm used to working with, an 8" handle and a 15" breaker bar...

The only 1/2 inch ratchets I have is a Grey Pneumatic ratchet and a 3 foot long ratchet. The middle ground is where 3/8s is more useful most of the time.

Maybe there is a guru on some VW forum that can help. One would think that the VR6 has some kind of cult following.

Two separate chains looks like it would be a bit of a pain.

I'll never complain about my little cam in block v6 then xD

Yes. I would assume unlike Honda's Vtec system, Vvt wouldn't produce a surge in torque, rather, it holds the torque over the RPM range. Not that I'm complaining, just wondering how this was implemented.

A red ae86 is rushing down the highway to Oslo, its driver wipes the beads of sweat from his forehead, he calmly places a his hand on the wheel and pushes his engine Even closer to redline. The suicide mission has begun. His clock is ticking, the speedo is pegging close to 240km/h and his deadline is close....

Ps: horrible writing but i needed to do something in order to take my mind away from the reason why im in Oslo in the first place. (And No, i didnt go 240km/h, speed limit is 100km/h and that is as fast as i went)

idk how people can actually afford an actual breaker bar. mine is just a long aluminum pipe slipped over a craftsman 3/8 ratchet. #ghettoaf

That writing is decent for what it is. (And that is coming from someone that is a writer)

I only have bad experiences when it comes to Oslo.

Always get a ticket for running studded tyres. The food is too expensive and one of the tunnels makes my ears pop every time.

Yeah that's why I figure the 15" one won't be an issue because when you're using 1/2" chances are the 15" will fit

Couldn't you pick up a set at a local tool shop? Then you'd have two or three different size ratchets and a bunch of new shiny sockets

i only got 2, one of them is aluminum and is like 2 feet? and the other is an old copper pipe from a plumbing job, and it's about 1.25 feet, normally for hard to reach bolts that need breaking loose.

If it makes you feel any better, my Miata has a drop off between 6k and 7k rpm lol, it's just kinda dead in that area

The drop off for my Mazda seems to be somewhere between 4.5K and 5.9K. Between that area, stomping the gas doesn't seem to do much, and feels like the engine is ready to tap out. When it hits 6K however, it's as though the engine gets a second wind. The exhaust tone definitely sounds a tad deeper.

Not that it lasts long, red line is at 6500, while the Rev limit is about 7100.
