Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

To the first thing: excuse me while we completely retool the entire car market to move the demand to fit your opinions and needs so everything appeals to your tastes

To the second thing: the main issue with how that v6 feels is the minivan part :/

yeah that minivan is quite heavy, near 3500 lbs. and that 2.5l v6 is grossly inadequate. even 160lb ft of torque isn't enough to overtake someone on the freeway. and it idles at near 4000rpm on freeway speeds. it's a terrible engine tbh, even though it was used in the ford contour svt. maybe i can try to tune it to the svt tune.

sounds like an underpowered thing. our 2009 Sienna AWD uses a 3.5L (2GR) with 266HP and 244lb-ft of torque, but weighs 4100lbs. it also get from 0-60 in 7.3 seconds surprisingly enough.

yeah, but remember, it's a 2001 minivan. v6s during that time were stupid underpowered. 3 liter v6s were making like only 180-200hp.

So..... Toronto Subaru Club is hosting their Spring Fling this weekend (April 24th) and I realized I still have a bunch of video from last year's event that I haven't edited, so gonna work away on that. Basically, this is their season opener and is mostly a subaru family affair, though all makes are welcomed. A few of the organizers are also certified autocross instructors and as a result also sectioned off part of the lot for a two day driver training course with layouts changing throughout the day - a few of them even brought their own cars, notably a V8 swapped E36, a MY15 STI, and a MY09 GTR from what I recall.

This is just one of the clips but one that left such an impression on me - a MINT S30 240Z driven by a couple who are probably older than most of the people here. Out of the runs they did, the wife actually lapped faster than the husband lol.

@bcredeur97

Also @MEC-777 if you're free on Sunday, the event is at the Powerade Centre in Brampton.

A 2JZ fits in an FR-S. I see no problem with them. Easier and cheaper to make too. Super smooth. Tend to be strong. I'm all for I6's. I also wish more people made VR6's as its a good middle-ground.

Yeah so how bad is the vibration for poly motor mounts?

I don't want to spend this much on motor mounts... (And according to forum anything other than OEM is garbage)

they are known for being very smooth. and they're strong mostly bc they are mostly cast iron blocks. but that's the disadvantage of these engines. they're just stupid heavy because it's cast iron.

Came up with a solution for my CDR500 head unit issue.

I would just use it without a screen, but i had an idea, since i don't smoke, i could just remove the ashtray and make a piece to fit the screen on the dashpiece.

Off topic but just wanted to say if you aren't using LED bulbs in your house, you're doing it wrong.

The cost savings is ridiculous. I calculated $8000 USD over 10 years for my family. And that's with the assumption the bulbs last less than half the time written on the box. (Assumed 10 years instead of 22).

LED house lighting is great. It was amazing how much cooler my room is vs incandescents, and fluorescents are awful. Took me a while to find LED bulbs that don't start flickering after a while. Still kinda want something brighter though.

So random question time...

Anyone have any recommendations for cheap-ish hand tool brands and floor jacks? I'm really not in a place where I can afford snap on, sk, mac or other high end brands. I know craftsman has gone to shit in the last 15 years or so. I have been getting cheap harbor freight stuff somewhat but I don't really like their socket wrenches I would probably rather buy a socket set with out a socket wrench and get a slightly better wrench for them.

Grey Pneumatic is a good "cheap" option. Probably on the same price level as craftsman but much much better quality. Check out the duo line.

Jacks and stands, I would get higher quality stuff. Maybe check out some stuff at auto parts stores and find something not made in China.

I got some Philips bulbs for our place. Good so far. Already had two Incandescents in the recessed lighting die on us since we moved in less than a month ago lol. Supoosedly the flickering only happens if your home has bad wiring since the current draw is so low and the LED's react quickly to changes in current/voltage. Figured since we have a brand new house we would be ok. And if anything happened we are still in that window to call the builder to fix the issues.

We used CFL's in our last two places. They were great for the most part but they had a high early failure rate. (Like 30-40% of the bulbs went out super early) and they also took a while to warm up but that didn't bother us much.

the LED's are immune to these issues. 5 year warranty solves the early death issue. (Though I bet DOA is more likely than an early death)

CFL's get super expensive if they die early on you.

3500 lbs isn't all that heavy. Underpowered, yeah but it's a minivan. None of them are fast. They're minivans.

On another note. I'm still looking at Hallaway vehicles.  Starting to look at other options that aren't box trucks. Leaning towards chevy express cargo vans. Especially the 2500 ones. Smallblock motors, 4l80e trainies and gm 8.5 rear ends I think. There's an 04 with a 4.8l in it that's cheap and in good shape for 5 grand. At that price I should be able to get one in the next year or two. They're also supposed to do sideways things better than you'd think. Also look super good with a brush guard. Me likey.

the only thing i like about our minivan is the third row. once you fold it up into a normal seat, you can tilt it back so the seat can face outward. it's great for the outdoors. and the storage space in the van. everything else i hate the minivan. it doesn't even have power windows or rear ac. go figure. my dad cheaped out and got the lowest trim.

As for the jack I was looking at some of the cheaper husky ones but then noticed they only lifted like 12 inches which seemed rather low.

I'm in your boat. I'll eventually be getting sk sockets and ratchets, but Harbor Freight sockets and ratchets and combo wrenches is my main tools right now and they work well enough. And my AC Delco floor jack is fantastic. I've got a 3/8" drive SK ratchet right now and it's the best thing I've used, and the 3/4" drive sk ratchet I've also got is amazing as well, but for diy stuff, the harbor freight stuff works almost as well. :)

I keep buying harbor freight  polished combo wrenches... I'm on my second set I left my first one to get mixed in at my parents with my dads and brothers tools. Over there I grew up using a mixture of craftsman (mainly), proto, sk, snap on, mac and just about every thing else that slowly got mixed in over time.  I would rather have SK then most the other brands I have used but I cant really say why I just like the brand I think lol.
