the second one is good if it can sneak out of the customs which it probably wont. 420 after tax is actually a great deal, but won't happen. It's that time of the year that you wish black friday comes earlier or later. 240hz 1ms monitor was $399 /144hz  $329 on black friday and how did I miss those

How do you figure it's a good deal when @AshleyAshes pretty clearly pointed out that it's not? :P

So it's worth having the possibility of saving $50, or risk paying up to $125?

Quebec has some of the highest provincial income tax rates in the province.

First $42K

Ontario: 5.05%

Quebec: 15%

Next $42K:

Ontario: 9.15%

Quebec: 20%

Next $64K:

Ontario: 11.16%

Quebec: 24% (Up to $104K) - 25.75% (over $104K)

Ontario keeps going for a bit, but tops out at 13.16%.

Actually, I think Quebec has the highest provincial income tax rate. And of course, you need to add on Federal Tax rate too.

While I don't think Canada is overly taxed in general (definitely not like most people make it out to be), Quebec does get up there.

Dude, they're gonna charge the income tax/import fees on it. You're basically gambling, and the deck is stacked against you.

I paid income tax/import fees on my Sennheiser HD 6xx's - but they were so cheap (and the HD 650 so expensive) that I came out ahead by over $200, but the deals you're looking at? Just buy the damn thing off Amazon or Memory Express.

I have never ordered anything off MassDrop. However, I live pretty close to the US/Canadian border so I just ship it over and pick it up. If you're polite and the value doesn't exceed $200-$300, the border agent won't send me inside to pay duty.

1) Seriously?  You think 13% sales tax is 'crazy'?

2) While an American shipper has no responsibilty or even means to charge Canadian sales tax, your order may still be charged Duty as it passes through customs.

If the American shipper is serious, they have to charge tax. You don't want to be charged Duty. You'll (probably) pay more that way.

Also, sales taxes are different across provinces in Canada. It's 5% in Alberta, 15% in Nova Scotia and I am unsure about the other provinces.

Source? Googling, I found GDP numbers for New York State that range from $1.1 Trillion to $1.55 Trillion. As you can see above, Canada has a GDP just shy of $2 Trillion.

Also NYS has a population of 20 million. That’s about the same population as Ontario and Quebec combined, the two largest and richest provinces in Canada.

So no, by proper comparison, GDP between Canada and NYS are actually pretty in line with each other.

Of course, you also need to normalize into one currency for a full comparison. I assume that the figures listed above are in CAD, while the NYS figures are in USD no doubt.

well, 100m bigger in 2016. With the current growth rate, ny state is totally bigger in 2018.

If if you want to talk about population, NY has less population. Heck, NYC has only 8 million ppl while Canada has 36m+ and the city only is already like 68% of the canadaian gdp.

Yes but you're comparing one the largest and wealthiest cities in the US to an entire country, which contains both vast rural areas, poor cities, and rich cities.

You'd be better off comparing NYC on a GDP per capita basis, with Toronto.

It actually seems like the rest of NYS (outside of NYC) has almost no economic impact to the state.

So let's take a look:

Toronto

Population: 2.8M

GDP: $303Bn

GDP Per Capita: $108K per capita

NYC

Population: 8.5M

GDP: $1.4T (rounded, I'm finding many different sources with different ranges)

GDP Per Capita: $165K per capita

That's definitely better, no doubt about it. But both figures are quite good.

We can look at Ontario vs NYS:

Ontario

Population: 13.6M

GDP: $600Bn

GDP Per Capita: $45K

NYS

Population: 19.75M

GDP: $1.5T (2016 number, couldn't find anything official on more current)

GDP Per Capita: $76K

So we can tell two things from this:

1. NYC is very wealthy. Makes sense. It's one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

2. Both NYC and Toronto significantly prop up the economy of the rest of the state/province - but this is more accentuated in NYS vs Ontario.

3. The rural areas of both make very little wealth compared to their respective metro city.

When you look at the entire US GDP Per Capita, it's much much lower than even NY State, because of all the rural, low population, low wage states, will counteract the gains of wealthy cities and states like New York.
