Is Paypal safe?

I have a seller who's uncertain about shipping via Paypal and now wants to back out of the deal because their account is new and they're uncertain about Paypal holding their funds for 21 days.

Is Paypal safe in your opinion? Especially if you're buying from a reputable buyer that provided links to their trader feedback etc?

Paypal is pretty safe, you can get your money back if the deal doesn't go through. Probably the best payment option on the internet.

Yes, PayPal is safe.  Paypal will hold the money from the seller for a few weeks to ensure the seller actually sends you the thing.

 

Any seller who 'doesn't trust PayPal' either;

A) Is planning to fuck you and doesn't trust PayPal to let them get away with fucking you.

B) To stupid/paranoid to do business with.

Been using paypal for around 8 years. Never once had a problem, no strange charges, also got my money back when scammed in the digital world, etc.

PayPal is completely safe. Always use it if you have a choice. Remember to select payment for goods or services. This way, PayPal will insure you in the event you don't receive what you paid for.

So it's been a long time since I had to deal with paypal holding funds. However as a seller, if you provide proper tracking information, as soon as the item is received by the buyer, you could contact PayPal and tell them the item was received, and the funds are usually released pretty quickly. However that's how it used to be, not sure if it still is (you can have the seller check).

Same. It still boggles my mind how buyers/sellers on HWC and RFD classifieds only use EMT even though it's not even meant to be used for sales and is about as sketchy as it gets.

Maybe the seller is planing on offering you the option of a bank transfer over Paypal, this is SOMETIMES what a scammer will do....Stick with Paypal and do yourself a favour..

You sound like you're pretty clued up on it all anyway.

I always use PayPal even if I am just using a credit card. It allows for a man in the middle incase a website stores it in plain text, gets hacked, or doesn't have encryption

I think Paypal is pretty safe and it is easy to use. I have had trouble with my bank and Paypal but Paypal's customer service help with that. I would recommend it to anyone.

Funny how no one else mentions the Paypal transactions of their "Friends and Family" option.

Sellers use it to bypass the fee's, but I just tell them I will pay extra for the fee and buy normally.

My landlord uses that, makes it pretty easy for him to claim "I never got your rent check buddy"

If he's a new member, sometimes Paypal can be a little bit of a PITA. I don't know if it's still the case, but Paypal when being used outside of the US will hold your money or take longer to transfer it from your bank account to Paypal for use. It used to be about a week, if not longer, where as the US was instant or a day or two. It could also be that he doesn't really do online transactions, in which case connecting your bank account or other financial information to an online entity can be daunting; especially if you're older, and it's not a common thing in your life.

 

Are you contacting them on a forum, or something like Kijiji or Craigslist?

If I get asked for Paypal payment via those two, I always refuse.
