Is 1280×1024 near to 1080p resolution?

ElusiumClearley

Well first of all, you're asking for subjective views on your question... And my opinion says no.

Because you're comparing a 5:4 aspect ratio resolution with 1.310.720 pixels to a 16:9 aspect ratio resolution with 2.073.600 pixels. So no, that's not near IMO.

1280 by 1024 is about 1.3 megapixels, while 1920 by 1080 is roughly 2.1 megapixels to give you an idea.

It should drop quite a bit, how far depends on the way your system is balanced. I'd estimate somewhere around 45-65% percent...

You're CPU might be the limit there, at least to some degree, but I think you won't really, to be quite honest...

Likely, since your GPU has to work harder to push more pixels per second. But it's also possible your fps won't decrease, if working under it's current conditions is ez pz for it.

No need to triple-post. The first one is sufficient.

Please, for the love of god, get rid of that 5:4 monitor and get a 1080p monitor! You will not regret it. The 1050ti should be able to handle 1080p fairly well. You may need medium settings on the most recent triple-a games. But then again, you need 16:9 on those games as well! If performance becomes a problem, you could drop the resolution to 720p (which is easier to drive than 1280x1024) and have no problems with performance whatsoever.

To me, a 1080p display is a no-brainer.

If the CPU is not a bottleneck now, it definitely won't be when he upgrades his monitor. I think it's safe to ignore CPU constraints for this discussion.

I personally run a GTX 1050ti OC from Zotac on 3x1080 for a total of 5760x1080 (wowow) and play at 40-45fps.

Single monitor I run 60-65fps to keep things buttery.

The age of that old 5:4 monitor is probably giving more blurr and lag than you'd notice the FPS loss with a 1080p.

Also, isn't Fortnight capped to 60fps by default? You might stay at 60fps when you upgrade anyways!

No reason to upgrade then! Yes - FHD is significantly higher resolution than your current monitor, and your performance will most likely drop. But it's hard to say by how much, we would need full system specs to make an educated guess.

Ahh! I get what you were saying now! That we can agree on! Basicly - if your CPU is the bottleneck in your current system, the framerate will stay roughly the same. But if the gpu is the limiting factor, the performance will decrease as you up the resolution.
