Which is a misnomer, its not being branded or advertised as that at all, you have to go to Nvidia A.I and Deep Learning page to even find it.

Is it a misnomer if it is true? I get that NVidia isn't marketing it to gamers, but if it is indeed the fastest GPU for gaming, then is that false? 

 

Previous Titans were not meant for gaming as well - but they were the fastest gaming cards on the market. Especially for their launch time. I'd still bet the first Titan V review hits 10 million views - even if most of us are just curious for the sake of being curious.

Previous Titans were not meant for gaming as well - but they were the fastest gaming cards on the market. Especially for their launch time. I'd still bet the first Titan V review hits 10 million views - even if most of us are just curious for the sake of being curious. 

Yeah but the reality is you could play a game on a titan xp, then play the same game on a quadro p6000 and have a very similar experience. Doesn't make the quadro card any more a gaming card.

From what Anandtech was insinuating this entire product might have come from Tesla V100 PCIe products that failed validation due to a faulty memory partition and due to the production cost of the GV100 monsters it made more business sense to create the Titan V than to throw them out.

The pcie tesla v100 has a very similar spec sheet.

I am going to chuck out an idea that this card is designed to be an option for those who would otherwise need a rack mounted server based tesla v100 but want to use it in a desktop case with video output.

It's exactly the same with one memory partition disabled which is why it has 12GB 3072-bit of VRAM vs 16GB 4096-bit. That's basically why the faulty product theory makes so much sense, maybe. Normally Nvidia would use the GV102 die for Titan not the GV100.

Call it a tesla then. nVidia can yap on all day on this being for machine learning, but they know exactly what they are doing - they hope some "gamer" with more money than sense will look at this and think it's a good idea to buy it for league of legends. The only reason the titan line exists in the first place is to sell professional cards at professional prices to non professionals.

That is exactly what they are from, especially since the board layout is exactly the same. Although it still lends the question of the NVlink.

Considering they don't even have it with their standard titan xp and the geforce cards on their website. I don't think they at all are expecting any gaming people to buy this.

Ok.... I imagine the answer is "not exactly". But,

AMD 6970 = 2.7 TFLOPS
AMD 7970 = 3.8 TFLOPS
Nvidia 980Ti = 5.63 TFLOPS


Those are all cards I've owned and with each one, I'd say the improvement in TFLOPS is pretty close to the improvement in gaming performance. If that's the case.... Is the Volta Titan going to be 19.5x better performing than my 980Ti?

Because if so, that's worth £2400 to me! Haha. Though I would wait until the Ti version comes and also AMD retaliate to that. Because I'm annoyed with Nvidia at the moment.

Nothing can stop Nvidia fanboys rushing out to buy "the fastest GPU" to play League of Legends. Then two months later Nvidia launches GTX 1180Ti with the same performance for gaming for $900. I love to see those people crying. History always repeat itself.

 

People have enough sense to spend $3000 on a GPU for gaming. It's their money. I don't care. :)

Oh, they absolutely are. It doesn't matter if it's not on the geforce page, if it's for sale some people will find it. Even one person willing to drop 3000$ for it that otherwise wouldn't have is enough for them. They just don't have it on the official page because otherwise it would be absolutely slammed by reviewers, just like the titan z was.

And I think that's really what bothers me about it. They didn't focus on gaming in their latest top gaming card.

So you are talking about their marketing, not the physical product?  Because it seemed from your post you thought that professional GPU's  somehow have an inherent physical difference to gaming GPU's in product design and manufacture.

I normally hate the word prosumer,  I think it is more relevant to describe products with moving parts like power tools and kitchen tools, they are tools that are better quality than the cheap stuff but still aren't quite sturdy enough for trade use (e.g all day every day use will kill it but it will last forever even under heavy DIY use).  For stuff like electronics which basically only sits on a desk then there isn't really a middle ground between domestic quality and trade quality, in which case yes, too much money for what you re trying to do is probably accurate.

No, the Tensor performance has nothing to do with gaming performance. Look at the FP32 spec which is 13.8 TFLOPs, Titan Xp is 12.1 TFLOPs so the smart money is still the 1080Ti.

Ah, that's much more like it and much more what I was expecting. Still, that means that the XP/1080Ti are near double the performance of the 980Ti. Impressive!

I'll still be waiting at least until 1180Ti before considering upgrading but we'll see.
