Were I to guess, I'd say this is NVidia's attempt to bring the cost of the full GV100 down into the prosumer levels.  The full GV100 does support NVLink happily; this Titan card is a down-spec GV100.  Not in CUDA cores, but in other aspects.

 

I really wonder if they're going to bother with a Quadro lineup for Volta, or if Titan V is going to be it?

I don't think so, NVlink and SLI by concept achieves the same thing which is turn 2 GPUs into acting as a single GPU but this is not interesting for that kind of workload due to how it can be divided across the cards regardless... it helps more in gaming and such which is not what this card is for...

This isn’t a gaming-oriented GPU though.

 

Judging from how they presented it, this may replace the Quadro as there are no Volta-powered Quadro GPUs as of now.

I mean for 9x the performance of the XP in certain task, for $3000 that is one fucking hell of a deal.

With 620 Tensor Cores you could easily have the smartest AI in games ever or the best cortana ever that learns from you. That's honestly the biggest thing for me.

Why do you think no GTX 2080 and 2070 were announced? why is this not market as consumers card? because again the next mainstream cards are Ampere for 2019, this TITAN one is like a Telsa/Quadro built for a specific usage that is not what you a mere gamer needs.

 

To every one else: this card is a 1080 Ti with Tensor Cores for Specific Enterprise Solutions STOP thinking it'll be any ground breaking into gaming, furthermore it is completely unrelated to the Ampere GTX 2070 and GTX 2080.

Be careful with your words... if volta for gaming comes soon in mid 2018, ill quote you on this.
