Unhappy with ryzen 3 performance. (what should I upgrade it to?)

You do realise an i7 4770 is faster than ryzen 3 right?

I know.... what i am saying is I didnt know ryzen 3 is this weak... and it somewhat affects the gaming performance I had..

the 1200 is weak if you don't OC it to 3.8ghz also increase memory clock speeds.

if you didnt want to OC, you should of got an X model.

If I am planning to upgrade to another one:

  1. Should I still stick with Ryzen platform? Like get a R7 1700? Or I should switch back to intel. (I dont mind selling the mobo and r3 1200)
  2. Or I should wait for ryzen refresh that is coming early next year?
  3. If I choose to switch to intel, does the 8th gen i5 can do a decent job? I heard that the 8th gen i5 performs like a 7 gen i7. Is it true?

Personally, I would go back to your Intel 4770.

If you really want to rep the Red team though, aim for a Ryzen 7. The price to performance for any of those chips is well worth it and you won't be disappointed.

I dont have that chip anymore. If I want to switch to newer gen intel., which one should I choose?

To get at least (if not higher) same level of performance of an i7 4770?

Get a Ryzen 5?

You already have the motherboard and Intel doesnt make sense to me anymore given their lack of an upgrade path.

If you get one with more than 4 cores and 4 threads yeah. Ryzen 3 is just awkwardly weak but so are all CPUs that low end.

Just overclock the cpu or get a ryzen 5 or 7 you won't notice those issues really once you bump up your core counts. For example with Ryzen 5 you'll be 3xthe amount of threads and with ryzen 7 you'll be doubling core count and 4x thread counts

I see. I might be waiting for the upcoming ryzen refresh.. and get the r7 model then.

Yeah that'll work the r5 series is the better deal honestly but, perhaps they'll have a sale on the older r7 variants when the refresh releases. While you wait I'd try lightly overclocking your current cpu if you have the motherboard to do it as it'll help a bit and there's a million guides on how to do it.

I will chekc on those. Thanks! I think my mobo does support overclock.

Here is the original thread I posted here. Describing high CPU usage on my newly built system.

Have been using the newly built system for like a month. And be honest I thought it would perform better than it actually did.

  • Ryzen 3 1200
  • 8GB of ram
  • GTX1060 3GB EVGA single fan reference edition
  • 450W PSU

Now, is it so slow that is barely usable? No. It works "fine" 90% of the time. And I am pretty sure it is not a virus or something, if it is, the CPU usage should be all time high. While in reality, it only spikes when doing CPU intensive tasks. It's just that it spikes a bit too high. (to my personal taste). And gaming performance does get hindered a bit.

The thing I want to ask is this:

  1. Am I just being paranoid because my last desktop had a i7 4770 and the cpu usage has never been that high.. Or I should just upgrade to another one.
Is it true?

I am a bit confused. I am leaning toward just sell the whole combo and switch back to intel. Get a 8th gen i5/i7 (i7 is a bit of a stretch..)

What do you guys think???

Before you upgrade to "better" processor, can you download HWINFO and check the processor clock speed?

Is that 1x 8GB or 2x 4GB? What is the speed of that RAM?

do you think that a ryzen 7 1700 is a bit overkill when pair with a GTX 1060??

a top tier r5 will do so?

Not sure what others said but a GTX 1060 is simply to much for a Ryzen 3 to handle even when OC its not going to keep GPU usage at 95+% meaning it will bottleneck your GPU in a lot of titles.

Personally i wouldn't pair a Ryzen 3 OC to 3.8-4.0 with anything higher than a 1050Ti even then a Ryzen 3 is getting pushed to 90+% usage in many games.

1060 should really have a 1600 or so if you go Amd.

With Ryzen memory bandwidth is important having only one ram stick severally hurts latency between CCX cores and having only 2 per CCX makes latency even worse.

so you are suggesting to get decent performance at least a r5 and duo memory stick?

would a ryzen 5 1400 suffice with lesser core clock speed than the 1300x ??

I haven't seen this anywhere, only ram clock rate should affect the communication between CCXs.What do you mean by the last part?

OP:

I have r5 1600 with 1 stick of 2133 MHz ram and I experience stuttering a lot (even in ancient games that use just 1 thread). Its most likely your memory.

Not really but an r5 is more than enough for that card, but it is recommended to OC it to around 3.8Ghz.

Single channel 1x8GB will severely bottlenecking gaming performance imo especially in open world games. Try to overclock the RAM because Ryzen benefit the most from memory overclocking.

Where does this come from?People have been saying for years that single channel doesn't ruin the performance in most cases.

Really i recommend saving your cash and getting a new Pinnacle Ridge CPU and just keep your board

I always said the Ryzen 1400 and 1500X should have been Ryzen 3 CPUs to begin with now Amd looks like a worse value compared to a 8100.

Ryzen 1200 should cost 70$ and the 1300X should cost 90$.

I've been spending too much time on builds lately. TLDR. for 1080p 60hz gaming with a budget, go with the r5 1600, 16gb flare x (optional) and a 1060 3gb.

for 4k 60hz 8600k 1080 ti hybrid (8600k on sale delidded right now, i picked up a couple)

for 4k 120hz with the acer predator mon in 2018 go with 8700k, wait for volta.

The highlight of this gen has to be the nvme m2 ssds. get one, 128gb, put ur os on there, there's a physical difference you can see with everything u do on ur pc.
