Unhappy with ryzen 3 performance. (what should I upgrade it to?)

1 chrome tab with twitch.tv playing at 1080p and one LOL client gave me 100% CPU usage.

wtf? Is ryzen 3 too weak??

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

I have a 1440p screen and my frame rate in game was like 100?? And I am using a GTX1060 3GB and 8GB of ram.

iF the stream is the active tab, then my cpu usage is as high as 95%.

Also when playing CPU intensive game, sometimes the graphic will "lag" for a second. Especially when just loading the map...

I think ryzen 3 is too weak.... =.=

No, we need an actual shot of the processes running in taskmanager when CPU hits 100. So we can see what process is taking up the CPU's power. Since you seem to have a cracked version of TW3 on your desktop ( ;) ) it might actually be a virus.

nope... dont know how to. using GA-AB350N wifi mobo. Can I overclock it?

the one that has a bunch of chinese characters are the log in program for League. It is legit. Official one from league.

the second screen shot just shows how much cpu does chrome use when streaming 1080p from twitch.

PS if twitch is running in the background tabs, then CPU usage is at 30-35%, as long as you bring it as your active tab, CPU usage jumps to 70%.

You can overclock it. Do it.

You can set LoL as high priority in task manager, I think.

Why is that process below lol in Chinese

That might be the problem

Btw press the CPU so it shows the process that use the most CPU time first

I'd suspect a faulty HDD or a virus. Either one, do some checks.

Also, why dont you upgrade to win 64..

  • 2 weeks later...

Have been using the newly built system for like a month. And be honest I thought it would perform better than it actually did.

  • Ryzen 3 1200
  • 8GB of ram
  • GTX1060 3GB EVGA single fan reference edition
  • 450W PSU

Still the same issue (I haven't overclock it..) , CPU usage is way too high. And it hinders gaming performance a lot.

  1. One time I let steam downloads in the background while playing SC2, the fps I got dipped to 13-16. While normally I get 45-60.
  2. One starcraft client, and one steam download at the background the CPU usage is nearly 100%.
  3. There was a few times I encountered some sort of graphic stuttering  while playing different games. Sometimes GTA V sometimes sc2. And i heard one of the reasons that games stutter is because of the CPU is too weak.
  4. Watching twitch.tv at 1080p in chrome, CPU usage can be as high as 90%.

Those are just some example of my daily usage....

Now, is it so slow that is barely usable? No. It works "fine" 90% of the time. And I am pretty sure it is not a virus or something, if it is, the CPU usage should be all time high. While in reality, it only spikes when doing CPU intensive tasks. It's just that it spikes a bit too high. (to my personal taste). And gaming performance does get hindered a bit.

The thing I want to ask is this:

  1. Am I just being paranoid because my last desktop had a i7 4770 and the cpu usage has never been that high.. Or I should just upgrade to another one.
  2. If I am planning to upgrade to another one:
    1. Should I still stick with Ryzen platform? Like get a R7 1700? Or I should switch back to intel. (I dont mind selling the mobo and r3 1200)
    2. Or I should wait for ryzen refresh that is coming early next year?
    3. If I choose to switch to intel, does the 8th gen i5 can do a decent job? I heard that the 8th gen i5 performs like a 7 gen i7. Is it true?

I am a bit confused. I am leaning toward just sell the whole combo and switch back to intel. Get a 8th gen i5/i7 (i7 is a bit of a stretch..)

What do you guys think???

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

7980XE or J4205...

Serious answer, I'd swing for the 8700K.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

You do realise an i7 4770 is faster than ryzen 3 right?

+1

4770K is much better than a Ryzen 3 -- Equivalent to maybe a 1500X
