Nav system, USB ports, handsfree. Beyond this, it becomes too much of a distraction until driverless cars are a widespread thing

Less than what is currently in cars.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

HUD display in windshields. Some cars have this but only high end ones typically. Needs to be more common.

Should be minimal and only display speed, RPM, and maybe a simple navigation system like arrows and what street to turn on.

Having a HUD is much safer than looking down or looking in the middle dash to view information. It won’t hinder visibilty because it would be transparent and minimal.

Besides that, I like tech such as lane keeping assist and emergency braking or collision detection. I just think that people shouldn’t rely on these technologies and it should be only there as a safeguard.

Also a dash cam is a great addition

Some tech is good and adds to safety. Like navigation. I’d rather have built in GPS than someone with a iPhone in their lap. Or a HUD so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.

Or collision detection that has better reaction time than humans.

the problem with good tech is, every tech has a point of failure where it can become risky in the end anyway :P also long ago we didnt have no navigation systems and we still got to our places :P

collision detection is stuff that ppl will just trust and rely on and actually causes the average person to pay even less attention to their driving, they usually end up thinking ... oh i have collision detection so i dont need to pay much attention anyway and then that one day it fails and gets u killed

That's not good... My 99 Celica has a nav system, Bluetooth, and (currently working on) cameras for front and rear.

In a modern car under about $35K this what would be preferable to have.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Lane Departure Warning

Auto Windshield Wipers and High Beams

Automatic Emergency Breaking

Back Up Camera

Automatic Parallel Parking

Wireless Phone Charger

Decent Sound System from a brand like Bose, JBL, Harmen Karden etc..

USB Ports

Navigation

Hands Free Phone

Anything else like a HUD, Lane Keep Assist, Night Vision, and Autonomous driving is reserved to the high end.

Long ago we rode on horses and still got to our destinations. Basically the same argument.

I love seeing the innovation taking place in the automotive industry right now (primarily with Tesla). Having safer cars on the road is never a bad thing.

Have you seen people looking at maps while driving? It’s so much worse than having a GPS.

Or when people drive really slow looking for street names and suddenly jump 3 lanes on the freeway at the last minute.

It’s just safer to have directions. Safer to have lane keep assist and collision detection. Yes it makes people more reliant but that’s the same mentality when seatbelts, airbags, and safety glass were invented.

no electronics in cars except for engine performance and fuel effeciency.

Look at the racing models from europe. No electric windows or fancy stuff like air-con.

I want a V8/V6 truck and sedan without the fancy stuff.

Most techy stuff in cars can be done with a tablet/smart phone. This is cheaper to upgrade than replacing a car's proprietary console. Look at NZ's imported Japanese car market. Full of second hand cars from japan with fancy consoles that are only in japanese. Cars that play safety message audio that remind you not to drink and drive in japanese, and you have to find a japanese person to turn it off. Cars with GPS that place you in the ocean because they were made for Japan only.

As little as possible.

Anyone who tells you that you can't do something is unimaginative and probably a coward.

comfortable ride (unless its a cool car that you enjoy driving) , a radio, air conditioning, basic safety, and a safe to put your phone in while driving.

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

Well...

There is more tech present in cars that people may not be aware of.

For example, modern cars run their own Realtime Operating System. Slamming on the breaks or hitting the accelerator basically tells the computer/OS to accelerate/decelerate.

Self Driving Tech would be nice but that's not here you.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

I too find older boxier cars 'sexier' but having a standard like that even for a decade of models can be tricky, even for one brand. In 2007 Buick could have done something like that, but they didn't know that stuff like the AUX port or Bluetooth or navigation screens would be so big in just a few short years. Nonetheless they would have to make a good port for connection that they might not even use half of the connectors for 3 years. In 2015 we bought a 10 year old Honda Civic, early this year a truck ran an intersection and totaled the Civic and the truck rolled 3 times and was totaled. Then we rented a 2017 Ford Expedition soon after (of which I wrote of in our newest article, site URL is in our profile) we bought a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey was a mid ranged model and has heated seats, bluetooth, an aux port, a backup camera INSIDE the rearview mirror (picture of it in the latest article) and it is just 3 years newer.

I think cars should have APU'S (Auxiliary Power Units) like airplanes have, in a situation where the battery goes flat you could switch over to an electric APU battery back up to start the car and at least get it to a garage to get a new main battery fitted.

Bad drivers will still focus on anything but driving regardless if tech is present in the car or not.

It's just who they are.
