I used to be terrible at keeping my desktop clean, I always extracted files there because it was easier than having a dedicated folder.

I use a rotation of different pictures, This one was taken by a friend of mine and was taken where we live(Andenes, Norway). the rest of the pictures are just random ones from the web.

Ignore the icons. My desktop ends up being a dumping ground half the time. I need to see if I can't get a higher rez of the image on the left. At least crop it a little bit above his ears so it looks a little better.
The image on the left is a random pic that's apparently inspired by Starfox. And the one on the right is one my mate had commissioned for us.

y u no use shortcuts folders?

 

I keep a games folder with shortcuts to games and I also keep an apps folder with shortcuts to my applications. It's considerably much nicer looking than dumping icons all over your desktop. :ph34r:
