Coffee Lake EUROPEAN prices possibly leaked

just_dave

This version of Skylake could be expensive, it looked like intel will keep the prices at least within the same levels as with Kaby Lake.

Basically, with Coffee Lake you could pay nearly as much for 6/6 CPU as for 8/16 CPU.

8700K has a ton of performance but it could be close to 7800X/1900X pricewise.

420 euros is approximately USD500 (pure currency conversion).

Edit: If this is true (Most likely not), the US price would be maximally 430-450USD. The european taxes are way higher than US.

Quote

There have been plenty of Intel Coffee Lake leaks recently which point that the October 5 launch date rumors are right on the money and the recent one reveals possible prices of three SKUs in Europe.

Coming from IO-Tech site, Intel's upcoming Coffee Lake desktop CPUs, including the Core i3-8350K, Core i5-8600K and the Core i7-8700K could have somewhat higher price tags compared to the currently available Intel Kaby Lake equivalents.

- Core i3-8350K: 199 €
- Core i5-8600K: 299 €
- Core i7-8700K: 419 €

Since Coffee Lake SKUs will have a higher core count, it does not come as a surprise that Intel will price them higher than the Kaby Lake SKUs.

Since the new Coffee Lake CPUs will "most likely" also need the new Z370 chipset, despite using the same LGA1151 socket, Intel could have softened the blow with a lower price, but that is obviously not going to happen.

But it really depends on the performance doesn't it? Its mixed up and confusing, it was advertised to be 40% better than the kaby lake, some people have said its only 11% better, others have said that its just a kaby lake rebrand with 6 cores only.

You add 50% more cores, at the same clock, and you should get 50% more performance in workloads that will benefit. 11% seems to be for the single-core performance meaning that the IMC and pipeline may have changed for the better. We're also getting the use of DDR4-2666 as stock (if you're going [for] unlocked, I would still recommend getting 3200MHz for price/performance).

I'm not going to comment on the "rebrand" issue since AMD did it more times than I'd like to remember.

I think the point of saying "rebrand" is to mean same IPC (and clocking ability, I guess).

How is anything AMD relevant to understand what is the new Intel product like? Trying to pick up a flame war? :P

Those prices seem too high to me, but there is room for hope:

- It's a rumor

- Euro MSRP at launch is usually higher than the USD counterpart after exchange rate adjustment. Moreover, after the initial launch, prices tend to crawl down from the typical "Euro tax" and become more retailer-specific (for example, the 1700x was going for EUR 299 this weekend). Therefore, even if true, this would be sort of an upper bound for US pricing, and a worst case scenario for Europe.

It's also not like it's twice as much as I would find interesting. But I did expect the i7 to be more neck-to-neck with Ryzen 7, even if the 1700x (certainly not the 1800x, which I consider overpriced).

8700K has a ton of performance, but it will be dangerously close to 1900X, which will offer the HEDT features.

420 euros is approximately $500.

People buying the 8700k are looking for the best CPU they can buy for gaming.  "HEDT features" like lower IPC and clock speed don't really mean much to them.

The 8700k will not be priced anywhere near $500 US and these leaks are purely shit news.  It's nothing more than one sketchy source citing another when you look at it.
