European Union Calls For Massive Internet Censorship

Maybe it can be. But ideas are made of considerations, and considerations are polar, and are connected to one another. Therefore, the ideas people put together represent movements towards which people are inclined, and not static things that are not fully detached from once their subjects are voted against. Even if the idea is dismissed now, the brewing grounds for the idea can still be lingering and foster in the people who are in favour of it. That the idea has come up means that there is a breeding ground within the EU legislature for all the things that go along with this type of thinking, and which this type of thinking emerges from. It's a big warning sign, even as a proposal.

UK in still in EU, so it has already been a "breeding ground" in EU.

If your finger get cut clean off, you have surgery the same day and its almost back to 100% here too.

Well, "rare" is probably the wrong word for me to use, I rather mean "New kind of really expensive treatment that have just come to the marked" too, but I rare, I mean rare and expensive to treat, for example loosing a finger clean of, to put it back on is not rare/expensive. A rare kind form of a sickness that really few get AND is expensive to treat because of companies that made the treatment take a lot for it.

Ah yeah I see. That's what happens when (some)research and physicians aren't funded by taxes but paid for their skill/intellect/ability level.

Overall I think our health care is looked down upon because it's not "free" socialized medicine but I'm not afraid of poor/ineffective care or shortage of medical supplies, it's not like that here.

Germany already has a new "hate speech law" that forces social media sites to remove content. Of course, the law didn't define what hate speech is so much more gets removed especially if you are critically on Islam. I also noticed that one youtube Channel I follow is no longer accessible in Germany.

I just want to leave but I have to stay another 4-6 years to finish my education....

Should look in to Russia's Far-East land programs.  Vladivostok is starting to become an important part in Eurasian trade on the Pacific and there're plans to expand the city and modernize it like St. Petersburg, but the land program is from Siberia to the rest of the East, where there's millions of acres of farmland un-attended - Russian government is urging citizens to move out that way, and they'll get free land, up to like 40 acres(Depending), and can build homes, or alternatively, European migrants are capable of moving there as long as they contribute via the land agriculturally or through some kind of well-needed position - doctors, engineers, and even trade workers.  My girlfriend and I are visiting Vladivostok soon so we can get going on a trip through Russia, looking to see about possibly immigrating, etc.  Who doesn't want to raise chickens and cabbage in Russia?  I imagine if you have family from Germany, that were former citizens of the Soviet Union, they might let you apply or have an expedited testing procedure to become a citizen, they do that for Hungarians and Ukrainians.  I know a handful of Germans in their early to mid twenties who've been able to migrate to Russia with ease, though they're in Yekaterinburg, Barnaul or they've moved to St. Petersburg, and can visit Finland, shop in Helsinki, with a bit of a drive.

The Germans have a history with hate speech, it ended very badly, and in light of that I can understand why they are super nervous about it now. The same events also tore the most Europe apart, leaving the countries broke, and many occupied either during or after the war with the humiliation that brings. Leaving hate speech going unchecked was a major contributing factor to the start of WW2 in Europe, which is why the EU is far more likely to be more up tight about it than say the US.

As for this proposal I suspect it will get binned off for either being unworkable, or ungodly expensive.

Do you have how many proposals go through the European council without ever being adopted?

You're just assuming that this law will be adopted just because you view the EU as some dictatorial institution, when the fact is the citizens are the ones that vote for their countrie's representatives in the European council.

People just need to realize that their wishes also have to contend with those of other EU members as well.

If you mean that citizens can't directly vote for individual laws, I'll remind you that neither can people vote for the laws of their individual country. They elect leaders with whom the share views, who then vote those laws.

The EU council is just an extension of a national congress you'd find in any country.

Sorry buddy but MEPs are not elected, there is no voting process and the public get no say in the matter, they're chosen by government officials to be representatives.

On topic...

I expect nothing less from the EU anymore, these people live so far removed from reality that they no little idea how things are for the citizens and because they're mostly born with silver spoons up their arses they are arrogant and believe they know what's best for everyone.

I still think Linus should start trading in America to earn some real dollars then he can have them converted to Canadian rubles and pretty quickly he will have enough to buy a state off the government, we can call it LinusLand and let chaos rule. If the UN intervene we can just pitch it as a social experiment and let them film it or something. Our economic focus would be consumer electronics but we would specialise in PCs and Linus would be our (purely for tourists but with no real power) King. We'd want Jon to be legal department, Nick Light would be in charge of trade, Dennis & Ivan would be in charge of foreign affairs, Brandon would do tourism and Max could handle the Domestic stuff. The writers could easily do statement and speech writing though I'm not sure what the editors could do? Lastly screw coltan :P

They're not calling for anything yet. It's a proposal. It still has to be voted and ratified.

This is important, because it takes 1 idiot to make a proposal, but hundreds of them to approve it and thousands to set it in motion. Right now we're still in the "just 1 moron" phase.

it wasnt just hate speech. it was unemployed ex-soldiers who felt they could have won the war. It was a shit ton of poverty. it was also the threat of communism.

the hate speech during hitler's rise was not new, it had been in europe for centuries. If the EU thinks suppressing hate speech will prevent another violent uprising then they have not been paying attention, they have their sights set on the wrong target, and they have been misguided in their history lessons.

Right now Europe has a lot of young men sitting around doing nothing. Suppressing free speech will not reduce the negatives of high youth unemployment. In the USA to reduce racism the solution that has always worked was to get people into jobs. Nazi related organisations always grow during recessions.

Every EU citizen residing in an EU country of which he/she is not a national has the right to vote and to stand as a candidate in European Parliamentary elections in his/her country of residence, under the same conditions as nationals of that country - this right is enshrined in Article 39 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union

Every five years EU citizens choose who represents them in the European Parliament, the directly-elected institution that defends their interests in the EU decision-making process. Voting practices vary across the EU, but there are also some common elements. Here is a brief overview of how Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) get elected.

You vote for a political party, and depending on vote count for that party, a fraction of the seats allotted to each EU country is given to that political party.
