Might Blow Up

Brennan808

I have an old Dell Inspiron 570 which I am upgrading and don't want it blowing up with the original PSU or this one I have had laying around for a while, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822007.

This is the link to the original PSU that the computer came with, https://www.walmart.com/ip/Replacement-Power-Supply-for-Dell-Inspiron-560-570-580-Upgrade/47379633?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1229&adid=22222222227034641494&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=56129788658&wl4=pla-87813455138&wl5=9032759&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112549857&wl11=online&wl12=47379633&wl13=&veh=sem.

The original PSU that came with the system I have been using since 2009 and I am the original owner of this system. The original power supply also has lots of rust on it and is pretty beat up.\

The Dell PSU also weighs about a pound and the Diablo tech weighs almost nothing.

As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't trust any unbranded "off the shelf" PSUs. You're better safe than sorry, so go for something from EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, or Thermaltake.

But out of the two which one would I be better off with temporarily?

Probably neither. Get a CX450 (2017) it's only $40

If your old one has rust and stuff on it, the insides could also be corroding. I don't really know why you would "wait". That diablotek PSU looks dodgy as hell, and doesn't even have any reviews. Just grab a CX450, they're dirt cheap and really reliable.

I don't think that link to the Walmart listing is an original PSU the computer came with.

What does the original PSU look like currently?

When was the last time you used the computer with the original PSU?

Where was the computer stored?

As i said it is rusted on the outside, the computer has been used for 8 years and i just stoped using it about a month ago. The computer was kept under a desk and on the side of a couch, it has been kept back in Arizona but it has mainly been here in Hawaii for about 5 years. You are right the unit i have has a 120mm fan of the bottom.

The tell-tale sign that the Diablotek isn't a good PSU.... other than the fact that it's a Diablotek.. is the red switch to select input voltage.

Mistake #1: Trusting anything related to PSUs from Amazon or Newegg reviews.

This is what you generally find in a Diablotek:

Why do you want to use such garbage, that's only usable as a Paper weight in a PC??

Remember:
It's cheaper to buy a decent quality PSU than a new PC!!!

And low Quality PSUs can not only destroy your computer but also kill you and burn down your house. Why do you want that??

Oh boy, there is very little imput filtering alone, and there isn't too many output voltage caps, they also look like bad, I mean I've seen worse, much worse, CiT comes to mind, but not the greatest.

Yours faithfully

Ah, must be a bug on my end. Regardless, I wouldn't buy it. Even if a PSU only has one or two reviews saying it "blew up", that's one or two too many and I wouldn't risk it.
