7900X reviewed!

Considering that those are stock samples without delid, those numbers are actually impressive compared to current 7700k CPUs.  I might have to grab some of them too.  :D

Oh, the core clocks themselves are impressive. I am talking about that massive voltage window, lol. The best sample being able to do it on 1.2v, while the worst only being able to do it at 1.34v. That's a huge window. In your binnings, have you seen a variance that high?

Yeah, I might buy a 7740X instead of a 7800X/7820X TBH, if they overclock that well :D

Seriously, voltage scaling of the stock 7740X looks very similar to slightly better then that of a delidded 7700k.  That's pretty cool.  If you squeeze out some additional cooling of the 7740X with a delid and a custom loop, Cinebench R15 runs at 5.4 to 5.5 GHz are very likely with sub 1.5v requirements using water.

I wouldn't. Get the 6 core for $50 bucks more and go to town with it. :)

I mean, it's up to you, but that's what I would do. The 6 core will give you more flexibility and you might be happier with that. The overclocking will be insane.

I went 8 core since that suits my needs. I could go 6 but I'd rather have the 8. :D Already sold my 6700K and gigabyte mobo. Getting the CPU this week or next. Can't wait!

I really want the 8 core, but I am not so sure if I want to spend $600 to get it :/ I'll see :D I think I'll end up getting the 7800X TBH

Hyper DIMM, LOL. So now being able to use the available ram slots is a feature that requires a jazzy name?

Nvm Hyper DIMM is just Asus's name for XMP, odd that I've never seen that used before in my boards manuals (cos I totally read those ;)).

Why is this subject to CPU support, shouldn't all X299 CPUs support this....................

One would think... Unless it's due to the trace topology itself. Not allowing access to specific DIMM slots might prevent those CPU's from hitting those higher rated memory speeds. Sadly, I don't see myself having the spending cash to test that theory, so I'll wait for some friends of mine to buy the platform, and I'll delegate that task to them. Cough, @done12many2 cough

For those claiming KabyLake-X is an entry into X299:

Launch price of X299 motherboards: $230

7740X = $350

So a Kabylake-X system would cost $580

Z270 Motherboards: $110

7700K = $340

So a Kaby Lake Z270 system would cost $450, saving you $130.

But the whole point is to upgrade to Skylake-X later, right?

assuming prices for X299 motherboards drop by a conservative 20% once the early adopter tax goes away, then a X299 board would cost $184, meaning you would be spending $54 extra for upgrading to X299 later.

BUT, in the Z270 scenario, you still have a perfectly good Z270 board after the upgrade, which I'm sure you could sell for at least $55, meaning you literally lose money by buying into KabyLake-X, even if you know you will be upgrading to skylake-x or other X299 CPUs in the future

Damn, these products are stupid.

It's the i7-7800X, spec sheet says DDR4-2400 unlike the rest which is DDR4-2666.

Well so do the KabyLake-X CPUs.

Nevermind I dumb

seems like the stupidest move ever. having just a single random CPU not support faster memory.
