This is exactly what I thought, when I heard May's proposal. When the government gets to regulate the internet, there will be selective censorship in place, aka, what suits them. She can talk all she wants about hate speech, terrorism and the usual, but the truth is, if they get back in and implement this, bye bye free internet. No more real news, no more are you allowed to speak your mind (well, you might be able to, but nobody can actually see/find it online).

It is exactly like you said, China-like situation, where you can't find information online about certain historical events etc, and probably nothing negative about their adminstartion either.

Good luck trying to find unbiased and negative opinions about the Convervative party if this is implemented.

Also, they keep on about banning?? porn or something, what in the hell is that going to achieve? I know, rape-rates going up, that's what.

They're trying to make changes to the Digital Economy Bill to have  the power to block any "adult content" on an ISP level in the UK. It's done under the guise of "protecting children from pornography" but really it's worded so vaguely that it just basically gives them the power to block anything they choose to. Much like how this plan is under the guise of stopping terrorism, it's really just giving the government a massive amount of power that they shouldn't have.

Honestly, the UK is the worst Western country in terms of online privacy and future prospects for internet usage. Much worse than the US if you ask me. The US is founded upon freedom so it's very difficult to try to take Americans' freedom from them. Here in the UK, we don't have such a big focus on freedom or a solid, underlying constitution (we do have one though, contrary to popular belief), so it's easier to try to take freedom away, which is exactly what the Conservative government has been doing and are now trying to take to the next step.

One of my biggest concerns is how they plan to go about creating a regulated internet where what you say and post is limited. Will they take China's approach of just banning major social networks to prevent the spread of extremism and mind sets that the government doesn't like? Maybe they're try to push for a ban on encryption again (yes, they tried to do that before) and abandon every UK citizen's privacy and security in exchange for catching Dave, who has been selling weed to his mates. Because let's face it, terrorists that actually pose a real threat to the UK and other nations are going to be using secure communications with good encryption standards. Even if you ban it, they're still going to use it so it doesn't help at all.

I've never really been a supporter of the Conservative party, but in previous elections I just hoped they wouldn't win. I was disappointed when Cameron was elected but I could deal with it. This time around I genuinely dread the Conservative party winning. I really hope the 18-24 age range get up and vote this time as ultimately, we're the ones that are going to be getting fucked over the most from Brexit and the Conservatives. I want to buy a house and actually retire at some point but I can't see that happening under the Conservative government.

Also, Darth May.

I don't think that the republican congress will have any reason to draw articles of impeachment  due to their interests so this will certainly not happen for at least two years.

It is important, but California has a superiority mentality that makes them think they can do without the States.

Well this is fantastic. /s

Let's just hope that the exit nodes for PrivateInternetAccess don't start throttling websites, that way I can at least get around Comcast's bullshit if it becomes an issue.

OP (and many others commentators on this thread) completely, unfortunately, missed the real point and intention of Net Neutrality ... it had absolutely nothing to do with enforcing Net Neutrality it was just a politically [illegal] motivated power move, that was it.

Also this has nothing to do with the Trump administration removing regulation, all this does is put the FCC back on the same foot it was before the Net Neutrality movement. IIRC the new Commissioner has plans to put in place (the correct way through congress) to pass a real Net Neutrality law that will have a real effect. How this will proceed I do not know and I won't attempt to conjecture on.

Some quotes from two conversations during the passage of Net Neutrality;

I suggest reading the entirety of both conversations as there is a lot of information there.

Nobody should be in favor of the Net Neutrality Law that was passed in the form and method that it was.

It's always funny to watch people having fallen for Google's propaganda over Comcast's.

It doesn't change the fact that treating Internet Service Providers like a Utility Company was a massive overreach (and illegal), while also meaning they're almost completely protected from Monopoly rules.  The Status Quo Ante is the best scenario, but since it's been a competitive bidding war for Congress on the topic for a very long time.  Nothing good is still going to come of this.

For what? Disagreeing with someone is not grounds for impeachment. Comey has testified that Trump has NEVER asked for him to cease his investigations into the Russia hoax, which was the only legitimate possible reason to impeach him. Further, the whole "Leaking classified information" during the recent Russia meeting was A) completely legal had it been secret info and B) was just another hoax by WaPo. Complete fabrication.

This brings into question the dangerous idea democracy where your "feelings" can overrule the system.

Russia hoax lol

If it's a hoax he shouldn't have fired Comey. Let him do his investigation for a year and then he'd have great ammunition for the 2018 midterms if there was nothing there. But instead he fires Comey and wants to put a stooge like Lieberman as the head of the FBI. This all screams of a cover-up. LOL claiming Washington Post is the one lying when your guy can't even tell the truth about the size of his inauguration crowd.

Comey has testified under oath that Trump DID NOT try to order an end to the investigation. There has yet to be a single piece of evidence tying Trump to Russia. Instead what we have is WaPo talking out its ass and a rather long memo about how Trump hired prostitutes to pee... on a bed... or something.

Nice strawman at the end there.

Why is it a strawman? You're just assuming the Washington Post is lying because what? You're going to tell me Trump is more trustworthy than the newspaper who exposed Nixon? The Trump who conned a bunch of people with Trump University? The Trump who couldn't get credit after bankrupting a casino? I mean those things print money and he bankrupted one. That will never not be funny. Trump lies about his inauguration crowd, Trump lies about how many stories are in his tower, Trump lies about getting the most electoral votes since Reagan, Trump lies about providing health coverage to everyone, how can anyone believe anything that comes out his mouth? LOL at the guy mentored by Roy Cohn coming to Washington to drain the swamp.

If it's shown people in his campaign were conspiring with Russia why would the GOP go down with the ship? For a con-man and lifelong Democrat who flipped parties when he discovered birtherism? And then took the party and hijacked it into a nationalist movement?

I am not assuming. They have proven themselves to be HEAVILY BIASED (which is an understatement to say the least) and also proven themselves to be completely willing to... erm... fabricate news when the day is going slow. Basically what you have to say is that he lied about some inconsequential bullshit and now you think that he lies about everything. News flash, kid, nobody cares about your feelings and none of that is grounds for impeachment, or a special committee to look into a Clinton-made lie.

He lied about healthcare. That's hardly inconsequential. And I don't think it can be ignored that he lies about things that can be easily shown to be lies. Why do Trumpers have such a victim mentality? Like all the bad press he gets wasn't brought on by himself? It's sickening seeing him whine constantly about the press. He is such a little bitch.

When a liberal says that repubs have a victim mentality. Yikes. Again, none of that is illegal and none of that is an impeachable offense. The press is justifiably against him and is being used as a weapon against the right as a whole, they repeatedly lie and are repeatedly caught. If you deny that you're too far down the rabbit hole to be helped.

The press is against him because he is a scandalous piece of shit. LOL anyone putting their hope in a guy mentored by Roy Cohn.

Of course our Dear Leader is going to get negative coverage when he promises everyone gets a free pony under his healthcare plan and then comes up with a plan stripping care from 24 million people while saying no one knew health care could be complicated. Of course he is going to get negative coverage when he talks about assassinating Clinton and sexually assaulting women. Of course he's going to get negative coverage when he calls the free press the enemy of the people. Of course he's going to get negative coverage when he praises Comey for telling the world about the investigation into Clinton right before the election, then has Spicer and Pence say he fired Comey for being so unfair to Clinton by revealing the investigation, then the next day tells Lester Holt he fired him for the Russia investigation. The guy is a crook, he always has been, and he still is, just like Roy Cohn taught him to be.

Health care is not a human right, hate to break it to you. The press is the enemy of the people, it neither truthfully nor accurately portrays the facts anymore. THe press is scared of its hegemony over media and thus feels a need to censor anyone who stands against it.

OK KellyAnne, this health bill isn't anything anywhere in the ballpark of what he repeatedly promised. It's not repeal and replace, it's bait and switch. The only true thing I have heard from Trump lately was when he said he could shoot somebody and wouldn't lose any votes from people like you. LOL the press being the enemy of the people when a free press is a huge check and balance against a tyrannical government.

As to seeing him impeached; democracy has outlived its usefulness, the people are now too stupid, or unwilling, to look at the world in a sane manner. Of course, I acknowledge that he as done nothing that would justify impeachment, and thus allow business to proceed as usual.

Right, no constitution in Canada.

I think he should be impeached if the FBI investigation found his campaign colluded with Russia. Why do you have such a hard time admitting Trump got elected on a bunch of boldfaced lies and has brought his negative press coverage on himself? He wasted his political capital on crowd sizes at his inauguration.  Why do you want to see Trump impeached if the media is just making shit up about him?
