Am I drunk or is this real? ISP limiting my internet upload speed

Is this even moral for ISPs to do this? LIKE WHAT THE HELL BRO, if I am capable of handling 100+ mbps download why do I have 5 mbps upload?

Because there is no reason for you to have fast upload speed. It saves the isps money.

I get 65Mbps down and 5Mbps up. This looks pretty normal to me, lol. Only time I've seen people get upload speed that matches their download speed, is on Fiber.

Ik but I like running my own VPN at my house so I don't have to pay for one every month and it just gets annoying cause I usually have 6/5 up and down respectively on my VPN. It would be nice if I could get more.

What is the current package you have form your ISP? Please tell the Down/Up That your plan is first... I have Fiber as well and get 220/15 on my 200/15 plan... Looks like a typical upstream speed to me. Your ISP is not throttling you.

My upload speed is usually .01..no joke. Be glad your isp isn't shit tier CenturyLink.

You're paying for an asymmetric internet plan, not a symmetric one.

I've got fiber, I used to have 350 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up.

Ouch. I take that back, lol. I think Google had 1Gbps up and down. Some friends of mine in Sweden have similar speeds as well, so I assumed it was related to fiber itself.

If you are on Xfinity as what the speedtest says and you have the Extreme plan, you should get UP TO 10 mbps for upload, you can still call them and have them troubleshoot the missing 4mbps for upload. 

 

But some Xfinity speed tiers have double the download speed promo without increasing the upload speed so you need to check this too.

I don't believe Google Fiber is 1Gbps up and 1Gbps down. I believe it's more common to advertise fiber speeds as being the sum of download and upload, when it's symmetrical, that's what Verizon does.

One day the internet in my apartment was going really slow. Usually I get about 350 mbps. This was the problem (I have no idea why upload was so outrageously fast, it's usually about 1/10 that):

Yes, I took this picture with my phone. That's why there is some glare on the screen. Should have used snipping tool but I wanted to text this to one of my friends and it was faster to take a picture through the messaging app.

Through Spectrum, I get 114ish and 14ish. What's so bad about your current speed? Most people would kill for that. Also, you ask if it's normal but you don't state what your Internet package is. That's like asking if a GTX 1080 is fine for high end gaming but you don't even tell people what games you play.

You guys should try my internet. I usually get 600Kb/s up and 5Mb/s down but every day for about half an hour I get this^^^^^^^^.

I contacted my ISP and they said it is a known issue they are trying to resolve. It's been like that for almost a year now.

I get 10 Mbps up on my Comcast connection. Thats the nature of Cable internet works. There is less channels for upload speeds. So you get a very unsymmetrical connection. What if I told you Comcast DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit connection is 1Gbps down and 35Mbps up. You have to deal with the limitations, if you want a more symmetrical connection look in the Comcast gigabit pro. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

@Steeve I live in the Houston area as well and I too have Comcast and my speeds are nearly identical, except I typically see 120/6. We only pay for 100/5, but Comcast overprovisions their lines by 20% so that's why you see 100/6. I bet you have the 75/5 plan.

Because DOCSIS bonds more channels for download compared to upload and the two use different frequencies, one of which can handle more speed and the other cannot.
