Serious question. I see this all over the forum and it's starting to get old tbh.

RBG doesn't automatically equate to a rainbow seizure, it's there to eliminate the need for multiple pointless skus. If someone wanted an all blue set up and another person wanted all red, they could buy the same product and achieve their goal (omg, crazy talk).

Yes, I do see a reason to be upset with price premiums if two skus are out with single color vs rgb versions, but not everyone wants the standard blue or red schemes (or maybe there is a specific shade of blue or red they can't have by default) --what if someone wanted purple, pink or orange? This is where RGB shines.

Anyone else tired of the bashing and can enjoy RGB for what it is?

Don't forget those of us that get board of color schemes quickly and change them, or those of us that use RGB as a basic system monitoring tool.

I think it's more that RGB is becoming a gamer tax of sorts rather than a legitimate change. I think it's a band-aid solution to these janky looking motherboards - see any Gigabyte gaming board that's non-RGB.

It'd be all fine and good if there were more black and/or white, maybe mixed motherboards since those are fairly neutral colors and would match more builds than say, a white red and blue motherboard from Gigabyte.

there's just too much RGB, it's getting a bit old.

like i have an RGB keyboard, and the RGB aspect has gotten boring after a few days.

personally i'm all up for customizing my rig the way i would like it to. but it'll be nice to have the exact SKU of a mobo with RGBs and one with no RGB LEDs. because i may like the appearance and features of the mobo, but hate the amount of RGB it has. yes, you can also turn them off. but you'll still be paying for the premium of having RGB.

If price were identical for non RGB and RGB products, I think the hate would be less exaggerated.  Both my keyboard and mouse are RGB, but they sit there with a specific shade of blue and fav red for accents--nothing crazy.

Fortunately the new  intel 2XX boards are trending in this direction. Most are either black or white or a mix of both (some have colors on them still) but mobo manufacturers are starting to understand that people, not just gamers want boards to match their builds and having colors on the chipset heatsink and vrm's takes away from that.

Some people like the aesthetic that these products can give, and they might place their system where it's sure to start a conversation. It could be regarding it's subjective beauty, or why someone would strap their system to the wall via hot glue.

I'm sick of the RGB hate. It's like, heaven forbid should we have choice in the marketplace. For example so many people made fun of RGB RAM, and PSUs that had RGB lighting. If you don't like it, go buy any one of the hundreds of products that don't have that feature. It's not like the companies are making RGB mandatory. The price difference is a touch annoying, but it's to be expected when something is still relatively new to market, and over time the price will come closer to that of a single color board. Simple fact is, you're getting more functionality, so the price will go up.

I love RGB. It lets me change something to exactly what I want. Having different components with RGB lets me put the lighting where I want. I'd rather have choice, than have no choice.

I think RAM makes sense as more people are using liquid coolers and you can actually see it. Plus those plasma tube ones look super badass.

Don't RGB keyboards require more advanced controllers? Plus more advanced software. Cost has to be made up somewhere.

I wouldn't say that quite yet. I'd also have a steam punk theme room, a wooden aesthetic room, maybe a diesel punk room, an Asian culture inspired room, and a retro tech room, with systems in each room that match the theme. I like many aesthetics, and get bored of just one fairly quickly.

It's because the RGB tax (or what I'll call that) is insanely expensive FWIW. It's a shitty investment for no gain except for your PC looking like a god damn Christmas tree.

Having RGB on everything was a running joke that came true. It was sort of a meme but people actually liked it. But then they got it and it stopped being funny, so the popular opinion sways. I like it. It's actually convinient to plan builds theme-wise, also now they don't have to market 4 different styles, maybe. just one that can be RGB.

Well I would like to point to this article: http://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-hardware-needs-to-grow-up/

A lot of the problem with "gaming hardware" is that it's starting to become more form over function. RGB LEDs are fine, but you know, there comes a point where it's basically too much. And I'm not immediately on board with the idea that "choice is better", because at the end of the day, most people don't want choice. They just want something that works. This is basically why once you've found a product you enjoyed using, you tend to go back to the same manufacturer. Because you know what? Making a choice takes energy. Energy that could be used elsewhere.

Also I'm not convinced LEDs add any significant cost to the product. You can get surface mount LEDs for pennies, and even for a full size keyboard, that adds at worst $10.
